Our first time here. I chose because of the close proximity to us, and the good reviews.

I really wanted to give this place 5 stars, but because of no authentic Mexican desert availability, or margarita availability, it gets four. LOL.

The food was amazing. Very authentic. We started with Mexican sodas. I went with Pineapple. We the ordered the homemade chips, with a very spicy orange colored dip. It was great. Love spicy. Keep in mind, there isn’t any complimentary chips and salsa, like at most Mexican restaurants….the chip and dip selections are under the appetizer section of the menu. We didn’t mind ordering, and paying the $5 or $6 for them, because the spicy homemade sauce it came with, to dip the delicious home-made chips in, was phenomenal.

Next we had our entrees….my wife went with the good ol classic Chicken Burrito. It was Huge. She had to take half home. She was very satisfied with it.

I went with the Tacos de Birria. Birria is a Mexican dish from the state of Jalisco. It’s a Meat soup traditionally made from Goat meat, but occasionally made from beef, lamb, or chicken. In this case it was shredded beef tacos and Barria soup. You dip the tacos in the soup with each bite, and the flavors are amazing. I rounded out my meal with a side of rice and beans, which were both excellent as well.

After our entrees, We were so ready for some Churros with powdered sugar and chocolate drizzle on them, but they don’t have dessert, on their extensive menu.

The inside of the restaurant is small but cozy, and very colorful in traditional Mexican colors, with the seats and tables.

The family that’s there running the business, were extremely nice, polite, and engaging….always making sure you, and your meal are okay.

Parking is on the Main Street, or off to the side street only….no parking lot.

If you like authentic Mexican food, and like to support a beautiful nice ownership family, and don’t mind not having dessert or a Margarita, then you should come here. The food is...

Update 5/19/23 - We understand prices needing to be increased with inflation. Which this restaurant has done (Tacos use to be $8, tonight $12, kids burger use to be $7.50 and now $10, Enchilada was $9 and tonight it was $11.50 on the menu but charged as $12, Steak Torta use to be $8 and is now on the menu as $11.50 but charged at $12). We do not appreciate just being charged extras on a bill without saying something. The recepit prices were $.50-$1.00 higher per item PLUS a service fee tacked on before tax which also makes the tax higher.

I will say the new tables and chairs were a nice upgrade. Guess we are paying for them now. Adding a new interior picture and a recepit picture for reference.

Orig. Review: Authentic Mexican food with decent customer service, large portions, and average prices.

The chips and "salsa" they served were pretty delicious. It wasn't like anything I'd had before. Just enough spice, it was creamy like it had crema or cheese in it, and it was addicting.

I wanted a torta and that's what I had. For my personal taste it was missing something and I couldn't quite figure it out. I added some of the leftover salsa that was served with our chips and it was delicious.

My husband ordered 3 tacos and it was a LOT of food. He said the langua was awesome and the torizo was pretty good too.

It's a small local restaurant and we definitely...

We are so happy to have found our new favorite Mexican restaurant. A friend from Queens visited us and picked this restaurant for dinner. None of us have visited this restaurant before but their menu looked amazing. Our friend had Tacos de Birria and LOVED them. He was insisting he probably wouldn't eat the entire meal before we got there but once he had the first bite he was hooked... all that was left on the plate at the end were utensils and lettuce. Hubby and I each had Tacos Dorados and were pleasantly surprised to learn they are vegan friendly when the sour cream and cheese are left off. They were so delicious and we can't wait to come back for more.

Update: We came back for more and decided to try their veggie burrito (without cheese/sour cream) and O M G! The burrito itself was HUGE and every bite was amazingly delicious. Easily the best burrito I've had since going vegan.

I just have to add that this restaurant is decorated beautifully. Each chair in the room we dined in had different painted pictures on the chair backs -- none of the scenes repeated. The tables also had beautifully painted, vibrant landscapes under glass. I've never seen a restaurant have such a variety of artwork displayed this...

I have a hard time sleeping at night imagining that your average Scrantonian is going to a travesty like La Tonalteca in favor of this absolute gem. The food here is authentic and positively tasty. The nachos supreme features a lofty portion of perfectly seasoned steak, addictive cheese, fresh guacamole and bell peppers/onions cooked in meat fat. (Who knew I would dream about vegetables.) The birria tacos boast perfect ratios of tender meat, oozing cheese and the occasional hit of spice with salsa that packs a kick. The consomme pairing is voluptuously fatty and satisfyingly rich for a palette cool down. The chorizo and spicy pork quesadilla was similarly flavorful with tender, melt in your mouth meat that lived up to its namesake and abundant cheese. Everything here is cooked to order, made with care and unafraid of spice. Service is kind and conscientious but the value of this establishment is unparalleled. Prices are far cheaper than your local highway adjacent faux Mexicana flophouse so I suggest you take the drive into Southside instead.
