So I wasn't going to post a review but changed my mind due to hoping I could change small town thinking and perspective. My daughter and I went in to Hoof and Horn for a nice mother and daughter dinner. When we arrived at the place, it was pretty busy on Saturday. Amazingly, our wait to be seated wasn't long at all. Once we were seated, our waitress came to our table and introduced herself as a new waitress in training under another waitress. She asked us for our drink order and if we would like any appetizers? I replied with a water, and my 16 year old daughter asked for a root beer. And then we would like to add some fried pickles with ranch. She said okay I will be back with your drinks and appetizer soon.""We said thank and waited. About 3 minutes later she brought us 2 waters and said that our beers would be out shortly. My daughter and I both looked at each other like, did she say beers??? I was like, if it is 2 beers, don't touch or drink it. My daughter said , " I know, mom. So I said you know what if she is bringing you a beer, maybe she will tell her supervising waitress, and the higher up will ask her about the id, so I am going to make sure we both have id. So I go to the car quickly get her id and wait for the beer. So she is sitting there and I think it is mean because the bar staff is going to make this drink without knowing. So I decided to go to the bar and tell them not to make it. But as I go to the bar there, the bar tender is. So I asked her if that was a blue moon. And she says yes it is. For table 31? I say yes and that it is not needed. Sorry for the inconvenience. Our waitress is asked by the bar tender, so you don't need this beer anymore? And the waitress says, ughhhh i guess not. And was a little lost and short. So I return to my table. I hoped the waitress would come to my table and ask why I returned the beverage, but she didn't. My 16 year old daughter says mom i am thirsty for my root beer. May I please get it? So I asked the waitress to please come here. She says okay. So she came to the table and I asked her if I could explain my reasoning for returning the drink to the bar? She said yes. So, I started by saying that she didn't ask for identification. She interrupts me to say yeah I know. Then, after that interruption, I say, "Please do so then. After showing and proving that my daughter was only 16 years old. She blamed it on training, and as that is true. I have been a server before I know all videos, papers, managers, and others always say ask for id no matter what. And yes, I take into consideration that they were busy, it is her first day of training, she is human, and she made a mistake. That isn't the issue.....the main issue I had was that while there and finishing our meals and drinks is that the whole waitress crew and even the bar tender made my 16 year old daughter (who technically had done nothing wrong but was misheard) and I who was just teaching a potential waitress a possible big mistake she had made to be more careful feel like we were in the wrong. When in reality i feel it all started at the beginning of not being asked to see id for myself or my daughter. So I just really hope this is pointed out and corrected. Oh and BTW before you all start acting like I am being a jerk or not handling this in the right manner. You may mind your buisness and have a great day!! I did enjoy my families lunch with my father and nephews lunch there the other day. I will make a seperate review. Thank you for your correction to the mistake and I hope lessons were learned and hope she is happy and excited about her new job...
Read moreWe, 5 adults & 1 child ate here for the first time on 3/29/19. Had reservations for 6:30 but it wasn't too crowded anyway. We all like mountain oysters which not many restaurants serve. On appetizer menu here, so we tried them. Hand breaded, really good, but overpriced @$12.29 for what you get. For that price it should be a dinner meal with potatoes salad or vegetable. 4 of us had the chicken fried steak. $13.99. I've loved hand breaded chicken fried steaks and have had some great ones in my travels over the years. This one was very impressive when served. It was huge. Super crispy thick crust, thick tender meat, good gravy. Here's everyone's comment from our table that had chicken fried steak, including mine. Too Salty!!!! Not sure if they throw salt on the meat then bread it or if they dump salt in the breading before breading. WOW it was overly salty and non of us added salt to it. It was the kind of salty that makes you very thirsty for several hours after. We heard another table mention theirs was pretty salty too. They seriously need to monitor and reduce the salt. Salads good, Fried left over baked potatoe were fair, green beans were good, rolls were good and soft but not homemade. One of us had chicken gizzards and livers dinner $11.99 & comes with potato and salad or a vegetable. They were okay. Grandson had kids menu corn dog with potato chips. $5.99. We got a piece of their chocolate cake to go and ate it later that night. It tasted old/stale and dried out. Didn't even eat it all. That was...
Read moreI was not impressed! We had heard so many favorable comments, however mine won't be one. I called to make reservations and was initially told I didn't need one then after a long silence on the phone it was decided I did because we were bringing my 3 year old grandson. Then when we get there I was told oh I must not have transferred that one out of the book. What a joke...really? My grandson sits in a regular chair at home so wanted no part of the high chair, so we moved a regular chair to our already too small table and were told we couldn't do that and also told rules were broken seating us on the bar side...once again, really? Then we were moved to the other side and were told we would be put at a larger round table...nope, wrong again we were sat at another small table in a corner against a wall and you guessed it can't have chair pulled up. We waited an hour for our food and the 4 adults were served 1st and after a while my grandsons food was finally brought out....really? We've waited an hour and then the young one has to wait longer? And by9 the way the 3 adults who had chicken fried steak got them served like warm and my mashed potatoes and gravy were so cold I thought they came out of the fridge. We were NEVER asked if everything was ok, which is probably a good thing because I likely would have come uncorked. We weren't told thank you or come back soon. I will not darken their...
