Stopped here on the way back from North Cascades national Park. The exterior is cheerily painted with bright yellow trim and presented a clean and busy place. We were there on a Tuesday and it was quiet because the weekends are the wild times in the Cascades. This was confirmed by our server who said on weekends the main indoor dining area (large0 would be full as would their outside dining space. The interior was large with a lot of tables but still had good space between tables. Decor was rustic western themed with a certain amount of antique items in cabinets around the room. One thing that stood out to me was that the place was spotlessly clean without being antiseptic.
The menu was long with a comprehensive list of burgers and sandwiches. They also had a selection of Asian/ Korean items that other reviewers noted were very good. The server noted they were popular and that as the owners were Korean they were properly authentically prepared.
While I love Asian food I was really fixed on a plain sandwich. I chose a grilled ham and cheese sandwich and my wife chose a BLT on sourdough. Both sandwiches came with fries that were both hot and perfectly crispy; measuring up to the best fries I have ever eaten.
Both sandwiches came on bread that was about 75% larger than the average slice of commercial bread. The ham and cheese was perfectly grilled with a layer of sliced tomatoes adding to its heft. I find it hard to describe how good the sandwich was because the crispiness of the toasted bread complemented the softer crumb of the bread in a way that announced its freshness and quality. The BLT was also adjudged superb as it was piled high with the requisite bacon , lettuce and tomato mated with two slices of bread approximating a half acre of real estate on the plate.
We did not stay for dessert as we were nearly crippled by the large servings but if the excellence of our sandwiches was any guide, the risk of disappointment from any item on the menu is near zero.
The prices are closer to Seattle prices than one might expect for a rural establishment but the value is solid. There is a lot of friendly and efficient staff to wait on tables, the facilities are spotless and the vibe is warm and friendly. These are people who care about the total experience and are delivering in a location that is a long way from easy supply sources. A definite bright spot on the way to or from the North Cascades...

The atmosphere drew me in. And the name.... Mondo. OK... sounds silly, sounded intriguing. If you drive past Marblemount, it's the most lit up building in the area. The sign & lighting draw you in. Granted, there aren't a lot of options when you're out that way. It certainly gave me the impression that it was pretty kid friendly, & I had my 11 yr old with me.
At first look at the menu, I was floored at the prices. The prices were considerably high. I know everything in Washington state is expensive these days but these prices shook me a little. I was surprised that almost every plate was $20... in Marblemount too?!? Damn. It didn't seem right. I expected it to be at least a little cheaper. It seemed overpriced, for sure.
We ordered the gyoza appetizer, the Turkey Swiss dip with fries & a salad. The turkey dip was one of the blandest, tasteless sandwiches I've ever had in my life. It was served on a dry hoagie. It had been warmed, but there was no texture. Cheese barely melted. The au jus was also flavorless. I was really hoping it would be good au jus, but it was quite sad & disappointing. The fries were OK. The salad was OK, but the Italian dressing was gross & also lacked flavor. It was clearly Sysco dressing. Not good. The only good things were the gyozas, but they were likely deep fried. They gave you the smallest amount of sauce with the gyoza, it was laughable.
Almost everything about this meal was disappointing. It occurred to me that maybe I ordered the wrong thing & that maybe the Asian food options were much better. But they were so expensive... for just chicken teriyaki, I decided not to go that route.
The older Asian lady gave really strange, standoff-ish service. She ignored my request for a small cup of water to take some medication, but the other younger girl obliged. The younger girl was a much better server. But yeah, the service left something to be desired as well.
The atmosphere was OK. Lots to look at, for sure, with a small store in the back. This was one of the few redeeming things, I guess.
I would not recommend going here unless you have no other options. There is another place right beside this restaurant & next time I go to the area, I'll be checking out that place &...
Read moreSeptember 2023 Wow! The food is just getting better tonight. Paul was our cook and Tiffany our server and Sue was so gracious and made us feel very welcome. Couldn't keep my hands off of my husband's fish and chips. He had the halibut and the fries especially are so so good. Best. I've had. They're kind of temporary type fries and they are really really good, especially serve perfectly hot
The bulgogi was melt in your mouth, on sizzling platter. Lots of onions, lots and lots of beef served over rice and they recommended their house teriyaki sauce which I have to say. It doesn't taste like anything that common teriyaki sauce tastes like. It is delicious, delicious and tasty. Very very glad we came
August 2022 Still excellent. Western burger split to make room for appetizers and drinks.
Crispy cold lettuce. House salad had lots of goodies in neat piles for beautiful presentation.
Onion ring in burger have warm crispy crunch with the mouth feel .
Fast friendly service.
June 2021 Car broke down in Nehalem, due to driving in 100 degree heat. Waited 2 hours for tow truck and son to drive up and pick up family since we couldn't all fit in truck.
Mondo was our reward for us hungry people. Place was busy, at half capacity, but we got a table. Good service and FABULOUS food. Western burger, mushroom burger so big we could split. And nummy BLT.
This is the place to come.
May YUM, we split the Western Burger with BBQ on the side. Hubby doesn't like BBQ but I wanted the perfect fried onion ring with all the fixings.
They graciously split it on two plates, because we were splitting an entree salad. Which was loaded with chicken and goodies.
The menu was varied and everything cooked deliciously.
We...
