I wouldn't normally start with the bad but I feel like the bad is critical to the review. After I made my reservation in March and received my confirmation, I heard nothing from the owner/host. Ever. Nothing. I tried to contact her several times before the trip and got no reply. There was no valid contact information provided on any website I could find. Phone numbers posted various places online were all non-working. I left messages through the portal where I booked and even on Instagram. After reading reviews about poor communication and canceled reservations, I was concerned I didn't have a place to stay. Had I seen those comments sooner, I wouldn't have booked. Most of the positive reviews were many years ago. It is very disconcerting to fly across country, to a somewhat remote area, and be unsure if you have a place to sleep.
As it was, we found our way and the key was in the door. There was no information provided about the property, how to operate anything, who to contact if there were issues. No printed instructions anywhere. Let me repeat: we NEVER spoke to a soul and wouldn't know how to get ahold of anyone if we needed to. When we left, we left the keys on the counter and walked out.
All that said, the trailer is, as others have mentioned, nice. It's clean and well appointed. The property is pretty. Sitting by the river for morning coffee or an evening cocktail is a great way to start or end a day. (side note: the coffee maker stopped working on the second day. Since we didn't know who to call, our coffee came from the shop up the road.) We were only two people and can't imagine being in the trailer with more that but we're also "luxury hikers" - more Colorado or Idaho towns than back country. This did the job.The hiking and kayaking were some of the best we've done. The stay was, hands down, the most ridiculous thing I've ever experienced in a vacation rental. If you live local(ish) and can go home if there is a problem, go for it. If you live far away and need guarantees of a place to sleep, I'd choose...
Read moreThe place itself would have gotten five stars, but so much went wrong and communication was just awful. Bad news first - when the toilet clogged from normal use, there was no plunger, and rather than addressing it themselves, I was sent to the shed with a flashlight in the dark to dig through a mess to find a key to open the shed to get the plunger. When I couldn’t find the key it immediately, the housekeeper on the phone was very impatient with me. The next day, the code for the door didn’t work, and we were locked out of the house. No one answered our calls or emails. Eventually, my son crawled through an open window to let us in. I called again 1.5 hours later, as they never returned my calls, and they were completely unapologetic and no remuneration was offered for our troubles. It should also be noted that there are two cats on the property. I suspect they spend time in the house, since my daughter had an allergic reaction while we stayed there.
The good news is that the place itself is very comfortable, generally well-stocked (though the can opener doesn’t work), and well situated. The grounds are beautiful. Make sure to bring groceries, though. The only stores in the area have...
Read moreVery nice house on the Cascade River very close to North Cascade visitor center (approx 20 minute drive) and within walking distance to Marblemount boat launch and town. On the property there is a large grassy area with a walkway to overlook the river and fire pit. Marblemount has 2 gas stations that each have groceries, hardware, camping, fishing supplies. There are also a few restaurants very near these house. The house is well stocked with spices, condiments, plates, glasses, etc. There are herbs outside in the garden. The house is clean and beds comfortable. Holds up to 10 ppl, but there is only one bathroom with a shower (you can do the math on showering and bathroom use!). Plenty of parking available. Washer and dryer...
