Aw... nuts. Today our hopes about experiencing a new good ice cream place ...melted.
I don't mind kicking out the cash but the scoops here are small. Perhaps they are "gourmet-size" but they are nothing at all like the massively huge triple-scoops in the waffle cone as pictured on the pretty digital sign out front...or even the slightly less impressive photos from the customer who posted photos here. False advertising = wrong. thumbs down
3 people behind the counter but only 1 scooping the other 2 either sitting behind a computer or standing and doing nothing. Incredibly slow scooping for a hot day too. Hard ice cream + bad scooping tool + painful wrist = small scoops and very slow = melted ice cream. By the time your friend gets their ice cream, your ice cream will have melted. thumbs down
I ordered a hot fudge sundae to-go. The young man sprayed whipped cream into the bottom of the bowl (who puts whip cream on the bottom?!), then scraped out 2 small scoops of ice cream ..second.. then the guy said that they don't have nuts... (???)
So.. why not mention you are out of nuts FIRST right after I order? Maybe place a note on the sign next to "hot fudge sundae" that reads "sorry, out of nuts". thumbs down..whoops! Ran out of thumbs!
..or here's a thought, why not send 1 of the other 2 people behind the counter (who aren't doing anything) to the store to pick up some nuts for the tiny over-priced gourmet ice cream sundae soup?
He asked if I wanted to substitute something for the nuts. The whipped cream was melted at this point and the ice cream appeared shiny and soft. My daughter still didn't even have her's scooped yet.
I said, "I think I'll pass, thanks." then smiled politely feeling bad and embarrassed for all of them and the experience and we left.
I didn't even get a chance to try the ice cream.
The experience didn't even get that far!
It wasn't about the nuts, let me be clear. It was about the incompetence.
Their ice cream might be amazing.. but, well.. it's ice cream.
Had we stayed though, it would have cost $21.44 + tax for 2 hot fudge cream sundae "soups" (with an extra tiny scoop of soup each) with no nuts in cardboard bowls with no lids (to go).
I'm a disabled veteran living on a limited fixed income. So... I really need to make better decisions in life and I just can't see this happening... not even with my eyes open and the lights on.
Maybe if the scoops were larger. Maybe if they had better teamwork. Maybe if they were better prepared. Maybe if they seemed happy about taking our money. Maybe if they knew what they were doing.
If so, I'd probably be writing nice things here in my desire to support local businesses.
Still, I'm compelled to be honest. Hopefully this helps someone.
Instead, my daughter and I went to the store and bought some Ben&Jerry's, a can of whipped cream, a jar of hot fudge topping, some nuts, and even a jar of maraschino cherries. We wound up with a wider variety of options to choose from and much more ice cream for less... and it wasn't melted.
If the idea of paying too much for caramelized onion ice cream soup and having it served to you in small quantities in a cardboard bowl in a warm room on a hot day by people who aren't prepared, nor appear at all happy about what they are doing gets you excited,... well then, this might be your jam! You offer I come back for a discount as long as I "prepay"?
First you say that I lied then suggest I'm without honor because I didn't pay for a failed sundae I didn't take.
It wasn't 30 seconds. We were there for over 10 minutes. From the time the young man added the whipped cream to the bottom of the bowl to the time he went to talk with you about nuts was at least 5 minutes. The whipped cream was almost soup and the ice cream was getting shiny and beginning to soften.
By the time my daughter's ice cream would have been ready, mine would have become soup.
Check your laws of thermal dynamics.
I came in after a friend's funeral for ice cream, not to be insulted and...
Read moreI was extremely impressed with Smuggler Sisters Ice Cream. The consistency is very rich, and you can tell the ingredients that they use are of good quality. They have so many fun flavors, and of course, the classics. I opted to try the pear gorgonzola and peach habanero, and they were both great! It's also great that they offer "half scoops", so you can try multiple flavors. They had terrific customer service, and it's a very relaxed and calming atmosphere. I am excited to have such good ice cream on this side of...
Read moreWe just stopped by to try out the ice cream, so good. They make their own ice cream and home made waffle cones. I had the expresso oreo, filled with oreo cookie chunks and great expresso flavor, my husband had the strawberry cheesecake, fresh strawberry pieces and graham cracker crust. Yummy! Many interesting flavors for the more adventurous tastes....
