Blake's Cafe — Restaurant in Seguin

Disappointed. Had been there a couple of times previously. I decided to take a couple of our friends to celebrate my wedding anniversary. The four of us arrived just short of 6pm yesterday. It wasn't that crowded, and we were seated pretty quickly. First thing I noticed was that the table in some areas was a little sticky as if they had taken a second to run a dry cloth over it to just clear a few crumbs off of it. The waitress was friendly, but we all know that good service includes much more than putting on a friendly face. They had already run out of prime rib (only available on Fridays starting at 4--or until they run out). We eventually ordered sweet teas (3), water (1), 8oz sirloin steaks (3), fried zucchini (3), green beans (2), rice (1), chicken sandwich (1), & a side order of onion rings (1). Three of our four orders arrived in10-15min, and were brought out by someone other than our waitress. We had asked about the chicken sandwich and fried zucchini and were told she would check and get back to us. Unfortunately, it took awhile (only after we flagged them down) that they ended up giving us an update. Our regular waitress didn't regularly check back with us. The steaks were the size of a hamburger patty (and dry), and the rice was clumped and also dry. Three of us ended up finishing our meals before my wife received her chicken sandwich which was dry and tasteless. Our regular waitress eventually came back to give me the bill and ask how everything was. I felt like telling her, but I just said ok--to be polite. Then she gave me the near $90+ bill (before the 15% tip). Adding insult to injury--when I got to the register to pay, I was greated by the "oh by the way" we now charge a 4% service fee if you use a credit card. Maybe they need to post that at the entrance. Sorry, but I don't think I will...

Oh my goodness!! Absolutely amazing!! I don't know where to begin from the large portion of fried calamari to the non stop of fresh pumpernickel bread and butter I was almost full before our entrees showed up!! Service was amazing lovely little old lady I wish I would have gotten. Her name. We were sat at a booth at our request and almost immediately greeted and drinks brought to us!!my husband had the chicken fried steak it melted in your mouth it was so good. Today veggie of the day was yellow squash and there was ham or bacon bits in it perfect combo. Tater tots fresh and crispy! I had the chicken straps and wow oh wow the batter was amazing and the chicken was cooked perfectly!!! Fries were fresh and crispy and I also got a u gratin potatoes. I'm noticeable pregnant and she joked that I should get a veggie but my craving said other wise. And she brought me a small plate of green beans anyway I gladly ate for the baby!!! Our drinks were never dry!!! And the smiles were all around we will be back thank you for amazing food and amazing service!!!! Hope to come back this...

Liver and Onions were done perfectly, the brown gravy I could drink it is just that good. Green beans looked fresh and bright green, not like dingy canned beans.

Only complaint is the special of the day. Ordered fried cod. The breading used on it was the same one they use for catfish. It needs to stay on the catfish. Cod is way too flaky of a fish for a crunchy breading, it crumbled when I tried to cut it with my fork and just biting into it caused a huge mess. Cod should be battered, not breaded. The cod was however cooked perfectly, and the breading is very flavorful - they just shouldn't go together.

Fried zucchini were superb. Cut in rounds and fried crispy with a seasoned breading.

Scalloped potatoes were super bland. Taste just like the boxed kind, not impressed. If they had added a few herbs, maybe even some real cheese to the top it would have made a world...
