Worth a visit for certain dishes, but inconsistent overall:
I had a mixed experience at Chopathi India Kitchen. My first introduction to their food was actually quite positive—a coworker brought in some delicious samosas, and I was excited to learn they came from this location. Naturally, I decided to visit and try them for myself.
Unfortunately, the samosas at the restaurant didn’t quite live up to my expectations. While the flavor was still solid, the portion size was underwhelming—more like mini samosas than full-sized ones. You get three per order, but they were noticeably smaller than I anticipated.
On the brighter side, the South Indian offerings were excellent. The idli and dosa were both fresh and flavorful, with sides like the coconut chutney and sambar standing out for their authenticity and taste. That part of the meal definitely impressed me.
The biggest letdown, however, was the Chicken Dum Biryani. It came highly recommended by the staff, but I found it dry and lacking in balanced spice. The chicken pieces themselves were dry and tasted like they hadn’t been freshly cooked. Sadly, I’d rank it among the least enjoyable biryanis I’ve had.
Another downside was the presentation. While I understand the use of paper plates for takeout, it was disappointing to see everything served on disposable ware even for dine-in—especially given the relatively premium pricing.
In summary, Chopathi India Kitchen has some standout items, particularly in their South Indian menu, but also some notable misses. I'd return for the dosa and chutneys, but I’d steer clear of...
Read moreI have been going to this restaurant since Covid off and on since 2020 so I am very familiar with the fare here , recently I have been there several times and have noticed a decline in the food quality, its not bad per se but there is a definite decline, also noticed there are constant turnovers in the cooking staff in particular. Recently, the dosa I had was soggy, that still was not the issue in the past ( it was actually stellar) , what was shocking was sambar being served in nyquil sized cups , this is simply unacceptable , the several times I was there it was served in a proper bowl for adult use, so this should be the precedent I have been to many South Indian restaurants in the DMV not one serves sambar in a nyquil cup. Another issue is the new staff is rude and uncouth, the one who served me was very ill mannered and should be removed immediately. Talking in a condescending tone to patrons is unacceptable and I have been coming to this establishment for years ! After this incident unless this individual is not removed , I will certainly not being eating at this restaurant. In the past I have given guidance/policy to improve this restaurant ie like not making the sambar watery , improving the quality and the chefs there at the time took my guidance. The server being condescending and having a smirky hubris needs...
Read moreI went to this restaurant with a particular item in my mind as this is the only Indian restaurant in this area. Upon my arrival I didn’t find anyone for a good five minutes to greet me or take my order as they were all gathered in the back to chitchat while there were only one table in the entire restaurant that was occupied. Then a guy approached and asked what I wanted casually. After I told him what I wanted to order, he said they cant serve me that particular item due to a topping that goes on that dish was unavailable. I requested that i am willing to buy it without the topping and he bluntly denied to take my request no matter what even after I mentioned i came driving from very far just for that. I understand that restaurants might sometimes run out of items and cant serve them but these guys lack business etiquette completely. First no one to greet me for 5 minutes while they were openly chitchatting and they dont know how to say sorry for not being able to serve what the customer is requesting nor do they have common courtesy of offering a substitute for what I came for. Any of those would have helped. Customer service is very essential and critical in any service related business and im sorry they have failed miserably. I will gladly patronize other restaurants with good food and...
