If you've read through the other 1 star reviews, you're probably familiar with the "lady" that couldn't define what customer service is if a dictionary was in front of her.
Backstory...I pass through Sharon Springs weekly as I live in Colorado and work in Kansas. I've always been intrigued by the place and finally decided to stop in after 2 years of just passing by without stopping. The one and only time I do stop and I didn't even make it all the way in the door before I decided to turn around and walk away, never to return again. I don't know how someone can be so condescending and sour to a complete stranger that kindly said "Good evening" while walking in. She's got it down to a T though! The couple of other men that were there were undoubtedly giving me the "you don't belong here" look while this show was going on as well. I'm sure they were probably sweet talking her after I walked away about how great she is and how it's my loss.
In summary... Don't bother stopping if you're not a local. This is 100% one of those places where "that waitress" and the frequent local customers have that "we're from this here small town and we're better than everyone else" attitude while barely holding a 4th grade education. Seen it in many places including the small town I live in. The "Good Ole Boys Club" atmosphere has resulted in lots of businesses closing their doors. I'm for this one will face the same fate soon enough as well. It's unfortunate.... but if that's the hill they want to die on,...
Read moreWe arrived in the area in the late evening and figured we'd stay at the hotel behind the diner. Found out we had to register for the hotel at the diner based on the sign in the door.
We were behind some road crew checking in and that took a bit of time. But we were able to land a room while waiting I noticed it said "Limited menu" there on the counter. Seems the lady running it also runs the hotel and has no one else to work the grill at the time.
On the plus side we were able to order a pair of cheeseburgers and fries and go unload the car to return in time to find the food almost ready. The burgers were fine and the fries cooked. We ate our food and departed to get a night sleep.
Perhaps some of the other menu items would have been nice. But we were happy to get what we did as the alternative would have been a bag of chips and a granola bar out of the car.
The appearance of the diner was neat. The lady working the place was gruff but had a sense of humor and responded well to me joking with her. The few people in the place talked about different types of ammunition for their guns. Toto, we are in...
Read moreA decent little diner that brings back the classic 50’s vibe. However, it was NOT very clean. Our counter had not been wiped down and the menus were sticky and disgusting. Upon entering, the waitress asked us “What do you want?” No welcome or friendly gesture at all. What does she think we want?? We’re here to sit down and eat...? The entire time we were there, the gal was shouting at her male co-worker and was VERY unprofessional. It was very stressful to hear and watch. I felt bad for the male co-worker as he was doing his best to deal with the stressful gal co-worker. I realize they were short staffed, but there’s no reason for the gal’s behavior, especially in front of customers.
French toast and pancakes were decent. Tater tots were much overdone. They could have set the mood with dressing up in 50’s diner attire and play some 50’s music - nothing playing at all.
Middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and neither were wearing masks - even while preparing the food. First and last time we will be here unless management has some serious training for...
