We are regular locals - Benders always serves great food and drinks! Tonight we just got fish and chips - HUGE portion of fried white fish and lots of crisp handmade fries. The Antietam Ale and SoCo & Pepsi hit the spot. Service is fine but they usually seem to be a little short-staffed so it’s a bit slower than some folks like sometimes but the staff are busting their butts always! Atmosphere is not quite biker bar as many of us bring our kids in and no one bats an eye - it’s the only show in town (almost). Often there’s live music or trivia - always sports playing on the multiple TVs. There’s an outdoor table out front and some tables in the back on gravel. There’s another couple of rooms for when they get all seated out front. Wings Night is popular as are their St Pat’s party and other special events. But we always come back for the AWESOME food. Pay with cash and get the ‘discounted’ price.

We moved recently and Captain Benders was recommended to us. After biking the C&O canal, we decided to stop by and glad we did. My daughter and I thought our dishes were delicious. I got their Chicken Baltimore that had their crab dip on top of chicken breast. I will rate it a 9/10 and it was so yum I cleaned my whole plate even though I was so full! My daughter thought the burnside panini was really good too, gave it a 10/10, and didn’t notice the spice until after she devoured the whole sandwich (her spice tolerance is very low; it has pepper jack cheese & chipotle sauce). We will definitely be back to try other menu items we were curious to try.

After hiking around parts of the Antietam battlefield area, needed to refuel. Stopped in Captain Benders Tavern. Place is exactly what you'd expect in a tavern/pub. More space than you think, dart boards, etc. Good selection of national and regional craft beers. Food is good. We had taco salad (basically chili and taco fillings in an edible bowl) and tomato basil soup and chili. Tasty solid food. Would definitely come back next time we are in town. Based on message board they have specials several nights a week.

Strike 4 for benders and staff, I have nothing good to say about this place and hope the health dept shuts them down. I am a local and have tried wing night 4 times the first time was the better of the evils and only complaint is they charge for all you can eat wings but the waitress never takes your order and the kitchen staff can’t keep up. The second time we could only choose between BBQ wings and old bay wings they had no sauces the drink menu was a joke because they had a few select beers on tap and they had coke that was our choices. Third time we had a party of 11 and again the drink menu was very limited and sorry we are out of that on most then we started getting served precooked wings that were legit cold I will say they were done but must of been pre cooked and cold. Now the final draw is we again have a party of 11 and put in the drink order the kids brought them out and they were hit or miss being right so it was just accept what you get we already waited 20 mins for drinks after being seated. We put in our food order and after about 15 mins they bring wings out and hand out and they weren’t jiving with what we ordered but again it seems like its a get what you get. An hr goes by and I still have not got my appetizer or wings but hey I managed to get two beers in an hr and a half. I ask to speak with Steve the owner and the waitress comes back and tells me my food will be out but they aren’t taking anymore wing orders when some asked for the wings they didn’t get yet even though we were paying for the advertised all you can eat wings I again asked where Steve was and she said he’s not coming back. What an owner he finally came when I didn’t take no for an answer but he just put it off on his staff. My bill alone for 3 of us was $109 and I know of another guest with us that said his bill was over $100 and we got four correct baskets of wings out of a party of 11 and four of those didn’t even order wings. Not to mention after they dropped my order of wings at the table the waitress brought to go boxes and disappeared. Then to find out from a friend today the owners checks to employees usually bounce and they have to call and catch up to him for cash and said that the kitchen is filthy and they would...

Great little place. Service stellar, atmosphere killer.

To owner/manager: Couldn’t give 5 stars cause the Kitchen staff needs to get it together immediately. I meant to leave this review months ago but just got around to it.

When a customer has a request, you accommodate it if you can. We asked for our $35(!) basket of wings to be made crispy because we come weekly(!) and don’t find them to be crispy/done enough to our liking

As a restaurant owner/operator I was appalled on my most recent visit when the server told me straight up “I’ll put that on the ticket but the kitchen normally doesn’t accommodate requests like that” …

excuse me?? It’s chicken wings cooked in hot oil…at a da*m dive bar, we’re not exactly on 5th ave in NYC here so Im not sure why the staff is “too good” to attempt to accommodate something as small as crispy wings?

I suggest you remind your kitchen staff when customers are in your restaurant, the customer is paying YOUR bills and THEIR wages simultaneously.

If you’re lucky enough to turn a profit with a kitchen staff currently full of divas too good to accommodate their customers I suggest you count your blessings because kitchen staff will make or break your business eventually

TLDR : Kitchen staff ruins an otherwise awesome little restaurant / bar. usually our server just says “oh yea sure” when we ask for crispy wings , but once the wings come out they’re not cooked any...

The only reason I'm not giving it a one star is because of the ambiance and the beer. My husband and I were passing through to see the Battlefield at Antietam and found this place. The two different waitress we had were friendly but not attentive. We had to wait an hour to get our food while watching several other people who came in well after we did, get their food. It was a bit busy but this does not excuse what the big issue was. They were good about getting us beer and our appetizer but not once to check and see if we got our main dishes. One of the waitresses finally asked if we got our food after an hour and found out that they lost our ticket. She proceeded to tell us the she'll not charge us for a beer (which she did) and give us a discount because of our long wait (which she did NOT). Needless to say, it is a charming little hometown place, just make sure you're not starving. I do not recommend this place to...
