We visited Amber Oaks because I had purchased a Living Social coupon online. We had never heard of it but since it is close to where we live, we decided to give it a try. I called and made reservations since I didn't know what the wait would be like and we went on Valentine's Day. When we arrived, we went in through the front and there was a sign that said to wait to be seated. We were the only ones waiting but thought we would sit and wait for a few minutes. After waiting for over 10 minutes, no one ever came out, so we walked into the dining room. A waitress told us to wait up front and someone would be out to seat us. After waiting another 5+ minutes, I walked into the section with the bar and let the bartender know that we had reservations and had been told to wait out front and someone would come get us and no one had. He found someone to seat us. My husband had the sirloin tips which weren't bad and I had the Fisherman's Platter which included shrimp, crab legs and lobster tail. The shrimp was almost inedible. It didn't even taste like shrimp, just rubbery, watered down nothingness. The crab legs were good, but not warm which made them almost impossible to get out of the shell. The lobster was also decent but since it took me so long to get through the crab legs, it was also cold by the time I got to it. We had stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer which were pretty good and strawberry cheesecake for dessert which was by far the best thing out of the whole meal although it tasted like the frozen kind you can buy at Giant Eagle. Our waitress was very nice, but didn't check back on us often (it was not busy at all) and we had to wait almost 15 minutes for her to come pick up our payment after she dropped off the bill. We ended up being there for a little over two hours!! Also, my booth was broken and the seat under me kept moving back and forth every time I moved. I would not recommend this place. If it had been busier because of the holiday, I would've been more accepting for cold food, etc, but there were maybe only 10 other couples in the dining room, if that. I wouldn't waste my time...
Read moreAfter purchasing a Groupon certificate for this place and THEN reading the reviews I was a little worried about taking the family there. Upon arriving the exterior of the building needed some attention. The EFIS was esp in need of some repair. There was no hostess you just seat yourself as the "handmade" sign says. We took a nice sized round table for the five of us and was greeted by our waitress. We asked for water to drink which is our usual and I ordered a margarita. Our drinks came and we then placed our order. Two burgers were ordered and a pasta dish and two strip steaks. The burgers and fries looked really nice and they were demolished by my son and daughter n law. The fries were plentiful. Our dinners included salads which were delightful and warm bread and butter. Our other son finished his pasta but thought it could have used more spice. My wife's strip steak and mine were fine. I thought a little on the thin side for 8 oz but were topped with onions, mushrooms, red peppers and cheese as described on the menu. The mashed potato and gravy was hot and not the whipped boxed potatoes you get at some places. The margarita was very nice with dinner. We were attended to really well during our meal and all in all the night out was fine. A little dated on the inside but really I was fine with that. I liked the nice size of the table for our seating as some places the tables seem to really crowd you together. I would go back except it is about a 40 minute drive from our house....just a bit too far. If we go back it will be on a Wed. or Fri for the all you can...
Read moreMy daughter and I went Friday the 16th and wasn't impressed in the least. Our waitress Megan was very friendly and very helpful. The food wasnt good at all. I got Filet Burgundy and it was overly cooked, actually burnt and to tough you couldnt chew it. I complained to waitress and she told the manager, which she claims she didnt know about my meal, but apparently another table had ordered the same and they complained. So in her defense, she said her husband and her had gotten in some bad meat and they'd talked to the "HEAD CHEF" about it and was very apologetic about it, but if they knew it was bad why serve it???? I could go on with more details, but to time consuming. So with this being said she offered if I came back she'd refund my $$$$, but I live about 30 minutes away and honestly I just want to forget that I even went there. Use to be a really good place to eat and the previous owners who are the now owners parents would've never served food like that to begin with. Use to go there all the time for the Lake Erie Perch Fish Fry. I wish these owners success, but if you know something isnt right dont prepare...
