I donāt usually write reviews, but as a relatively long-time customer of this restaurant and after getting bored one afternoon and reading ALL of the other reviews, I figured I would write one myself to give my opinion and address some of the complaints.
Iāve been going to China Express for years and they never disappoint. In fact, Iād call myself a fan. The woman in charge of the restaurant is always super welcoming, the inside has a satisfactory amount of seating (weāve fit upward of 12 to a table, albeit with a bit of squeezing chairs in), the food is always great, and if not theyāre more than happy to help. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for some good food for a fair price... not to mention the outstanding portion sizes.
For starters, the place has never been noticeably dirty any of the times Iāve been there over the past three years; a few times I went later in the day it couldāve used some lite sweeping, but any dine-in restaurant as busy as this one deals with the occasional messy customer that they canāt immediately deal with.
Concerning the wait time, I make sure to go when itās not busy. Just like any restaurant, there tends to be a rush at China Express during the weekends around dinner time. I know not everyone has the luxury of going out to eat at other times, but if you go, Iād recommend stopping by on a weekday and/ or earlier in the day. If not, try calling in the order and hour to thirty minutes in advanced- Iāve had to do it before and it went just fine.
The food quality has never failed to impress me and, although I donāt eat meat, Iāve brought dozens of members of my family and friends and have never gotten any complaints regarding the food being dry or sub-par. If I ever personally feel as if something is wrong, which is luckily a rare occasion, I just bring it up to one of the employees and theyāre happy to quickly propose a solution wether it be an additional item or making me a new one.
I guess the last thing to do here would be recommend items from the menu. As a vegan in a town like Shelby, itās not easy to find places to eat with much of a selection. That definitely isnāt the case here. That being said, I acknowledge that not everyone eats the way I do, so Iāll include some āregularā options as well that I know are popular with others.
General recommendations: Top recommendation: Chicken wings, an almost unanimous favorite. Sweet and Sour Chicken Fried or steamed dumplings Chicken fried rice

Ā Ā Ā Read moreRun, don't look back. Man was this disappointing. So many of these so called "Local Guides" I don't think actually go into half the places they review. Best Chinese food in town I call BS!!! You haven't tried that place on Fallston Rd on the curve by the BP then!! When I walked in I was greeted by a smiling nice lady so I thought. Actually she should have been a used car dealer. It was 1:30 p.m. I ordered the Shrimp Lo Mein and an egg roll of the luncheon special menu. I also ordered a soda. On the menu it says 5,25 + 1.00 for the egg roll. Soda is 1.25. That's 7.50 right?? Nope 9.95. 2.50 more than I should have paid. I'm like wait, what??? I quizzed her she said OOOOOOooo you not say lunch so we give you BIGGER SHRIMP AND MORE NOODLES You no worry it be good. I also quizzed her about the rice. I said you didn't ask me which kind I wanted white or fried. OOOooo You no say so we give you fried. I really didn't care so I just went to find a place to sit. #wow. The LoMein was the worst I've ever had. Very bland. The Shrimp was medium to small. Look at the pic. TINY SHRIMP on the TINY FORK. She lied to me. No veggies except cabbage. Egg roll same thing. No flavor. When I went to sit down....I COULDN'T FIND A CLEAN TABLE IN THE PLACE. Keep in mind I was the only one there. The floor was "sticky" to walk on. Paper's on the floor. Globs of dirt on the floor. Sticky stains from previous people on the tables. (not cleaned or wiped off). The glass front window is disgustingly dirty. The only restaurant I've been into in Shelby with FLIES FLYING AROUND. DIRT ALL OVER THE PLACE. I see the Health Dept gave them a A. Makes you wonder how they got an A at all. I will never go back. DISGUSTING!!! Don't waste your...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWell visiting the local area I was really excited to see this local Chinese restaurant with good ratings and a large number of people picking up takeout for it being the middle of the afternoon. Everyone's food looked great in the prices were really reasonable we were really excited to be able to try some of the delicious food that was offered. Well, sometimes your hopes and dreams are all you have because we definitely did not have delicious food. The meat was unrecognizable and possibly just scraps. Seasoning? I guess they've never heard of it! The food tasted like it had a hint of what it should be and the rest was just plain air. I've never thrown away such a giant plate of food before not eating barely anything.
Do yourself a favor and find an alternative Chinese restaurant. If you read this review and you disagree I would suggest trying another one because you may not understand what Chinese food should taste like. I've been all over the country to many different Chinese restaurants and I hate to say it this one may...
