Lowder Baking Company — Restaurant in Shreveport

I saw some of the posts about whole wheat and whole grain breads (from 6 years ago, 🤦🏼‍♂️, my mistake), so I looked forward to stopping here on my next trip to Shreveport. Also saw they had milk from a local dairy, pasteurized but not homogenized. The staff was very courteous. However, I was rather disappointed to find they no longer make any whole grain breads, just white bread. I did buy a loaf to try, but found it rather bland, even when I used some for French Toast. I'm just not a fan of white bread in general. I much prefer 100% whole wheat, so I'm back to making it myself at home. I did buy a cinnamon roll, which was quite good and quite large. It was 3 servings for me. I also bought a gallon of milk from the local dairy. It was quite creamy. And with our bumpy roads here in Louisiana, the cream on top churned into butter by the time I got home to Monroe. 🤣 I laid it on its side in the cooler for the trip home, and you can see the streaks of butter adhering to the sides of the jug in the attached pictures. 😳 Preparing to post this I see there is now a location in Ruston that has been open about 5 months according to the reviews. I'll have to stop by there since it is much closer for me, and maybe they carry the milk at that...

This is a great place to stop by for some treats, especially if you're just passing through town. They have cute little local things for sale now. They started with cinnamon rolls as their main pastry. I prefer the smaller ones because you get more icing and I like a gooey cinnamon roll. There's are on the breadier side. I really love some of the bars and brownies. I recently had a peppermint brownie and it was insanely good. They have some fun puff pastries too. Make sure to check out the refrigerated section. It's a great place for fresh loaves of bread. Their bread is always beautiful and tasty. When I go I always get a croissant. Usually it's almond or churro. I wish they would put more filling in them, but I love everything super sweet. I have some friends that prefer them over other bakeries in town because it doesn't feel like your teeth are going to fall out when you eat there. You can get a coffee to go with your treats. There is a sandwich shop next door if you need more of a meal to accompany the desserts. It is always super clean and everyone...

Blueberry and cream cheese king cake is good, but not finding any cream cheese and very little blueberry. I am literally adding cream cheese to it myself. Tastes good, but will try different bakery next time. 2 years ago, it was superb! Edit Great customer service! Lowder Bakery was more than happy to provide another Blueberry Cream Cheese King Cake on Friday of the same week at no charge. Again, the king cake is good, but the filling just doesn’t live up to expectations. There was extra icing on it, but the cream cheese filling just doesn’t exist in it, but there was more blueberry filling which saved it. Perhaps, just cream cheese would work better for us.
