My husband and I visted for date night. We made a reservation as required. We arrived a bit early but were promptly seated. Firstly, there were 3 dead flys accompanying us on our dinner table, which we just brushed away and tried to put that out of our minds. The waiter was kind. Our drinks and appetizers arrived quickly. The guacamole and salsa were VERY good but the chips that were served with them were STALE and sort of hurt my teeth to eat. But because we had been planning date night, I skipped lunch, and was so hungry I ate many of them anyway during the almost TWO HOUR LONG WAIT time until our food finally arrived. I am a patient person and I can be understanding for food to come out slow, but when it arrives after two hours, it better be hot and delicious! Sadly, it WAS NOT good. It was barely okay. My husband ordered the Fajita combo ($19.99) and I ordered the Combination plate #3 ($16.99). My husband is much more forgiving with food than I am. He said the food "wasn't terrible". The rice was overcooked and clumped together in gelatinous type balls, while other bits were dry and crumbling hardly resembling any shape of a grain. The refried beans were so bland and watered down to thin paste. They lacked any flavor at all. Mexican cusine should be FULL of flavor and spices!! I tried the fajitas as well, they had a char/grill flavor but also lacked any real flavor/seasoning. My husband said "This is the first time I've ever ordered fajitas at a Mexican restaurant that were brought on an iron skillet that WASN'T SIZZLING." For the trio of meat, they were mainly chicken. The steak portion was almost nonexistent, no bigger than some crispy bits of charred scraps. He did say the TWO shrimp he received in Fajita Combo were VERY good. Cleaned and butterflyed. My combo plate was served to me with beef tacos, however, I had ordered the chicken. So I had the displeasure of experiencing bithe the beef and chicken tacos. They were akin to Taco Bell tacos, with less spice. A sort of supermarcado, El Paso brand, crispy corn taco shell that was placed next to the enchiladas and had become soggy from sitting in the sauce for who knows how long until it was served. It was topped with iceburg lettuce and diced tomatoes on top of what was another bland experience. The beef was what seemd to be slow cooked/shredded but lacked real flavor save for what i guessed were canned diced green chilies. After I bit into the taco, and realized it was beef, not the chicken I had ordered, I informed our server and he brought out The cheese enchiladas, unfortunately were also left largely untouched. The enchilla sauce was not too bad, but the corn tortilla was not soft despite the fact that it smothered in sauce. The cheese inside and on top we a congealed mess. Served cold and had clearly been sitting for sometime after its initaial creation. I honestly would have been happy to have a microwave at the table at that point being I was still so hungry! The crispy shrimps, (which i was a little curious how they would arrive anyway, as the menu simply states " (2) shrimp " included with the combination plate) were the best thing served on the plate. After such a DISMAL DINNER SERVICE, (in which the people behind, in front, and to the side were also extremely displeased, some of which were complaining directly to the owner, others who simply got up and walked out) we decided to try and stay positive by ending on a good note. After some consideration, we ordered dessert. The fried ice cream. I had never tried such a thing, so I don't have much of a comparison, but my husband who grew up eating versions of the dish, said it was "good/not too bad". I agreed save for the shell being a bit pale and greasy. Other than that, it was vanilla ice cream drizzeled with chocolate and caramel sauce served with a shot of canned whip cream and a marachino cherry. The place was very clean looking, afterall everything in there is brand new. The restrooms lacked towels and only one dispenser had soap. Save yourself the drive or $, go to Taco Giro or...
Read moreRe: la Sierra grill Formerly Ricardo’s I’ve become a food snob as a result of my sweet Bride’s cooking. As a result, after having been to just about every eatery in Sierra Vista and many in Tucson, I have found a dining “Taj Mahal”, right here in Sierra Vista. ( more correctly, Hereford. Since my Bride is half Hispanic, half Native American, I have grown accustomed to authentic Mexican food. I didn’t expect to find a dining experience like I did today. I was expecting this place to be just another alternative to all the rest. But no my fellow Americans! First, the wait staff was attentive, and gracious. Especially Steve, he made the Meal a dining experience! He has changed my perception of “wait staff”! If, from now on, we don’t get dinner and a show, I won’t go back again. The owner, Manny, came to our table to make sure that we were in good hands, and to personally welcome us. You don’t get that anywhere, especially at chain restaurants. The food was more than I expected! The word authentic is thrown around like the word love. But in this case, it is true to the claim, and better. Food preparation has become a mass production process to facilitate the herding in and herding out of the consumer. Not so at this place. It’s not that kind of place. And the steaks, my son, who is our resident expert on all things meat, had no trouble polishing off his portion of the half cow on his plate. Finally, the prices. Be prepared to be pleasantly surprised. I have tasted foods from Santa Fe, to the stock yards in Ft. Worth, from the Black hills of South Dakota, to the border towns of Texas, none has been able to “check all of he boxes”. But La Sierra grill has. You owe it to yourself to try this place. Admittedly, it’s a bit of a drive, but trust me, it’s well worth it. And the scenery...
Read moreWow! I live about two miles from here, should have made it out sooner. Hands down, the best dining experience in Cochise County! Called to ask if we needed reservations, the polite lady stated she would get us a table. Walked in and the atmosphere was so welcoming. Bright yet not overwhelming with nice and comfortably cool AC. Super clean and the smell of the food was wonderful. We were sat down in no time at all with a waitress asking us to take our time with the menu. Got warm fresh chips and delicious salsa for an appetizer. Placed our order for a couple combos which arrived with perfect timing. You know how some Mexican dishes are too overwhelming and you think to yourself, “nobody makes a plate this ridiculously big at home”? This wasn’t that, it was a perfect portion, just as described on the menu. Not too many beans & rice which takes up half the plate like most places. You get filled up on what you came for, not the sides, though the rice and beans were really good! The food was delicious, not overwhelming either. A nice & mellow authentic taste with a little kick, fresh & awesome! Each item on the plate stood out by itself yet paired well with everything else. The general manager introduced himself as we were finishing up. This gentleman takes pride in his restaurant, employees and food. He appreciates all of his patrons as well. Oh, the waitress was perfect. Super friendly, knowledgeable and genuinely happy. This restaurant sets a fine example of how dining is supposed to be. We arrived happy and left even happier. A 10% discount for active military, vets & seniors is a nice and respectful...
