The hostess was so kind. She let us know that a table for two would take about five minutes or so and invited us to tour their exquisite little shop just to the right of the hostess stand. I highly recommend that all guests visit this while waiting for a table or before departing.
Once seated, our server, Amber, promptly asked us for our drink order and helped us decide on an appetizer. Torn between the Bruschetta and the Caprese, we decided on the Caprese, which was the correct choice. I am an absolute sucker for pesto and many times will avoid ordering it because the "store" purchased version leaves an oily residue in your mouth that will linger, and when you are eating it as an appetizer, that can easily distract from the rest of your meal. I can assure you that this pesto is some of the best you will have. It is so refreshing, and when sharing this with someone, you are watching their fork as if they are trying to steal the last piece of food on the desert island, and you want to fight them for domination and total control. However, in good company, I am more than willing to constrain myself from my primal instincts and share with my pack.
I enjoyed a Manhatten and an Old Fashion. Both were superb in quality, and the mixologist behind the bar was exceptional. There wasn't a thing about them I didn't enjoy, and the fact that they used dark cocktail cherries instead of the cheap maraschino cherries made all the difference.
For the mains, I had the Father's Day special Wagu Beef Meatloaf, served with a vegetable medley and mashed potatoes, while Dennise enjoyed the house Cappellini Mimosa. The pictures were taken far too late into the meal to show you what a profound presentation they had. Perfect, the cook on the pasta, blistered tomatoes, and the tomato sauce screams at you homemade. The acidity is just enough, and the final hint of heat on the back end makes you want to take the next bite before finishing the first. My meatloaf was better than what I make myself, and for me personally, I don't say that often. The potatoes were creamy, and the gravy tied everything together, seasoned through and through; the chef who created and made this dish properly understands their craft, and my hats off to you!
Amber continuously checked on us to ensure our dining experience was remarkable. The owner, Vicki, made her way to our table, which really set the night over the edge for me. We got to have an amazing few short conversations, and when you get to have the opportunity to talk to a powerhouse in our community in your same line of work, you do not take it for granted. She is as kind-hearted and genuine as they come, and I could have sat and talked with her all evening. She has created something unique, inspiring me to keep on keeping on, and I will.
Our evening ended with one of the top 10 desserts I have ever eaten. Top Ten? How's that impressive?? Remind you, I have dined in 32 countries across the globe, in some of the fanciest restaurants you can imagine, and all 50 States. So, the top ten is a big deal. I want to say this deep-fried, ewy, gooey brownie had a bourbon batter, but I don't have the menu anymore. But think of a tempura batter surrounding this decadent brownie, the type that you wish you could figure out how they did it, but given 1000 chances, you can never get it right. Crispy as I started to cut it with my fork, and once broken through this embrittled but soft coating, it melted through a cake and brownie collaboration that you all of a sudden can now taste with your ears, and Whitney Houston and Maria Carey are singing happy birthday to you when it's not even your birthday. You tell everyone to shut their mouths because you will never experience this again. The only thing you can do is eat it as slowly as possible because seeing it diminishing on your plate in front of you is causing you to have food withdrawals you didn't even know...
Read moreI want to start by saying that Pizzeria Mimosa had long been one of my favorite restaurants at which to dine for a relaxing and pleasant evening out. The food used to always be good, and some years back I was personally acquainted with some of the staff and always felt very welcomed. However, my family and I feel that the service here has gone noticeably downhill over the past few years. My last two experiences in particular have left me highly disappointed.
The last time I dined in, which was a couple of months back or so, I ordered a salad with shrimp and no dressing. I was brought a salad with dressing and no shrimp, and when I politely told my server that it didn't match my order, they seemed not to care very much and simply took my dish silently back to the kitchen. They came back shortly with some shrimp added to my plate, but everything was still drenched in dressing. Once again, I commented that it still was not what I had wanted -- mind you, I was neither angry nor rude, since I didn't think it was the server's fault -- yet once again, they robotically took my order back without a word. Now, I understand that maybe the server had other things on their mind. Perhaps they had had a long day, and again, I don't blame the waitstaff for any mistakes from the kitchen. Still, I know they are supposed to help provide a sense of hospitality to the guests, but I was made to feel like I was a burden and an annoyance simply for asking for no dressing. Well finally, I was brought a replacement, and my order was technically right this time -- only now the lettuce in my salad had quite a few leaves which were unsightly and unappetizing, with a lot of brown spots that I had to pick out and leave to be thrown away. I was not inclined to dine there again for a while.
However, recently I decided to give Pizzeria Mimosa another shot. Being too tired to go out, I placed an order through Door Dash for delivery, asking for a Caesar salad with grilled chicken. When my food arrived, I found that the lettuce was old, dry, and that part of it was wilted and bruised. More so, I found dirt caked onto several leaves, which says to me that the kitchen either a) did not bother to wash the greens, or b) did not bother to wash them well. Other leaves, meanwhile, looked like they were at the beginning stages of expiring. The worst part, however, was when I opened my box of grilled chicken and was met with a truly nauseating smell, and saw that the chicken strips were an unsightly gray hue on the outside. Granted, I know it had been boxed and transported for about 15 minutes to its destination, but I do know what chicken is supposed to smell like even after not being piping hot and fresh off the grill. This smelled terrible, like it had somehow spoiled -- and given that it had been cooked, I imagine it must have already gone bad before they grilled it. I did not eat any of my food, and thankfully Door Dash gave me a refund for this very unhappy experience when I reported to them that it was unsafe for consumption. Still, very disappointing and, if I may be frank, it kind of killed my appetite. I don't know if I'll be dining here again for a long, long time...if ever. Which is sad, because I used to like this place a lot. I had some great memories here with...
Read moreI rarely leave reviews but after my experience I think others should be warned. With all the hype I heard about the restaurant my husband and I decided to have a date night here. When we first walked in we stood there for a lil bit and finally a guy came up and said "just two?" Not hello, welcome, how are y'all tonight.... so we get to our table and get water and my cup had food on the inside of the cup. The waitress got me a new water right away. We ordered bruschetta for an appetizer. I may not be Italian but I do know that the bread it's served on its suppose to be toasted...it was soft. It was delicious, even with it being soft. We ordered a bottle of wine, it was delicious but quite expensive in my opinion for as small as the bottle was. My husband ordered the flank steak for his entree. This was a $27.00 plate. It came to our table looking beautiful. He asked for medium cook, it came to our table raw, he is never picky about meat but this was way way undercooked. We sent it back. Another waitress from the restaurant brought it back to our table. They cooked the same piece of meat, which is fine but when it came out the first time the steak had a tomato garnish on it like the bruschetta had. When he got his steak back after being cooked a second time it was still disassembled and no garnish. The steak was cooked properly the second time but it was very blah, no seasoning. Texas Roadhouse has wayyyy better steak. So damn disappointing for a $27.00 plate. I ordered fettuccine alfredo with Italian sausage. The sausage was so overcooked it was black on the outside and so dry inside, with a lot of fennel. The noodles were definitely not el dente, and the alfredo was tasteless. Olive Garden puts this $17.00 plate to shame. The manager did come by and ask if the steak was cooked properly but that was about it. We walked out spending $80 on dinner for two and so damn disappointed. I have no problem paying money like this for great food but if this is how their food normally is then its way over priced for the quality. I spent $240 on dinner in Vegas and it was the best meal I ever had. I would have been happier with fast food tonight than eating here. I didn't get a picture of his steak but here is the over cooked sausage fettuccine. Will not recommend this...
