ZEF BBQ — Restaurant in Simi Valley

If you're looking for actual incredible BBQ in the LA metro area, this is it. I got their platter, a 1/4 chicken and the pork belly burnt ends. The meat was smoked incredibly well, and you can tell he knew how to render the fat out of that brisket just right. It is definitely on par with some Texas spots although to be fair not quite in the top places like Goldees, but easily would find a home among them. I love the Asian inspired flavors that were in there (This is gonna sound weird, but I got Pho vibes from the potato salad, but it was delicious). Overall my only gripe would be that I wish you got more quantity of the sides with the platter order. Overall though for the quality and especially for LA, worth every penny (I spent $110 and fed around 4 people). Eating that first bite of the brisket with the bark piece made me literally "wow" out loud. The pre-order system was also so nice, just walk inside and pickup. All the guys there were so cool and chatted me up while they were getting my order.

I've been wanting to try Zef BBQ for a while, but I work Saturdays and get off after pick up time. This last Saturday, my daughter was off work and we decided that I'd order and she'd pick up. Win-win.

We had the pulled pork, brisket, burnt ends, charro beans, elote corn salad, and fuku pickles as well as a quart of bbq sauce. OMG. The food was fantastic. My particular favorite was the burnt ends pork belly. I could eat that all day. The beans were the right amount of spicy. The corn salad was refreshing. The pickles had a little zing to them and just enough sweet. The brisket and pulled pork were delicious. My only problem was that I should have ordered more.

Is it a little pricey? Yes, but we'll worth it. And you are supporting a local business. Simi lacks in quality food so we always try to support our local gems. One day, we want to try the Sunday pop-up stop. We will definitely order again. Thanks, Zef BBQ for an...
