I work in Sioux Falls pretty often and I'm always impressed by the amount of restaurants. I found Lam's on Yelp one day, was able to look on the menu and spot a Vegan Pho!
I stopped in one night later on, the restaurant was not too busy, kind of quiet there - no music or screens playing. I thought maybe it was due to being closer to their closing time, but I had been the same way the last few times I've been there. Found they had separate Vege and Vegan pages on the menu.
I ordered the Veggie Pho (Vegan Noodle Soup) as well as the Spring Rolls (cold). I have also ordered the Vege Banh Mi Chay, and asked them to make it Vegan. I loved the Spring Rolls, the Banh Mi was good, could have used a bit of flavor next time I will add something.
The Pho was absolutely to die for! Amazing. Not only was the veggie broth super flavorful, the tofu was out of this world. It's not your traditional raw barley cooked cut up tofu you receive in restaurants. There were three different textures or ways the tofu was cooked. It's hard for me to explain, I'm not sure I even understand lol! For the tofu alone this place is worth the trip.
Once on one of my visits I brought home a jar of their Kimchi and Pickled Vegetables. The Kimchi is the best I have ever tasted in my life, they really knocked it out of the park. Very garlicky. It wasn't until we were half into the jar did we notice it has fish sauce in it. So not vegan, wishing it was because I would love...
Read moreWe live in Minneapolis and were heading back from the Black Hills, SD. If we lived in Sioux Falls, Lam's would be our favorite Vietnamese restaurant. The restaurant and bathrooms are clean and most importantly, the food is fantastic. I had the large Pho noodle soup and the broth had a clean, non-greasy taste. Very good flavor. My wife had the small Pho bowl and she also thought it tasted great. My kids had the Appetizer platter of Spring Rolls, Egg Rolls, and Banh Bao. I'm biased, but my mom's egg rolls are the best. Lam's egg rolls are okay, but I've definitely had better. The Spring Rolls are great as well as the Banh Bao. If you live in Sioux Falls or are traveling through, I would highly recommend giving the restaurant a try. Prices were average for a Vietnamese restaurant, but please keep in mind that they actually "cook" food and for the price of a good Vietnamese dish you get healthy and tasty food as opposed to a fast-food restaurant. I hope you like it as much as my...
Read moreI've had Pho in many restaurants all over the country. My favorite spot is a place in Lowell, MA. Lam's is now my second favorite and very close to being number one. I ordered the spicy pho and the beef combination. The spicy truly lived up to its name by giving me that solid punch of heat that I love. It may not be right for rookies to spice. The beef combo is what sent Lam's to my number 2 spot. A pho is only as good as its broth and they have an absolutely delicious broth. Nothing that I've tasted in New York or Minneapolis could touch it. I couldn't believe that these wonderful dishes were being served in Sioux Falls. I have standing business there so I will be returning to sample more of the menu items. Oh yeah, the bun bao is amazing.
If I happen to return to Lowell and find that the standards have dropped on my favorite place, even just a little, Lam's...
