This was the first time I've actually left a restaurant during a meal in my whole life. After being seated for 30 minutes, our server finally decided to acknowledge our presence. Luckily we had secured drinks in the lobby prior so it wasn't a big deal to wait a few minutes but that should have been my sign. Because of this large gap of time, it allowed us to excessively stare at our menus; we ordered our next drinks, appetizer and entrees all at once. As another 30 minutes rolled by and no new drinks, we flagged down our waitress to inquire about our two glasses of wine, which she did bring a few minutes later. During this wait, it also became evident that every other table in the restaurant had bread and water except the ones who were being handled by our server. At about the hour and a half mark post ordering, our appetizer, 4 steaklollipops, arrived cold and under cooked. I like my steak on the rare side so it didn't bother me much but my wife who loves steak but usually more medium, wouldn't eat it. I would have brought this to the servers attention but we never saw her again. As we approached the post two hour mark of placing our order, having no water, empty wine glasses, no bread, no food and no server, we had enough. I informed the manager, who was very polite and apologetic, that we were leaving as we had yet to receive our food and that our server did not provide the level of service desired that is minimally required at any restaurant. The meal we never had was comped, which I appreciated, and the friendly manager is the only basis for my two star rating. Can't say anything about the food as it never arrived but many people who were also frustrated with our server during our exit did say that the food is excellent and that Ruthie's is a hidden gem. Unfortunately, I think this experience tainted any...
Read moreFood at Ruthies was above average. 6oz filet was cooked to perfect med rare. The steak itself was under seasoned but the glaze on top luckily added just enough salt to save it from being bland. The cold herbed butter on top would have been a nice addition except that it was cold and stayed that way the whole meal. Because it didn’t melt I was breaking of cold pieces off herbed butter to eat with my bites of steak. Good idea, poor execution. Garlic mashed potatoes were good, not great. They too could have used more seasoning—more garlic and more salt. The wedge salad was very good—large cubes of bacon and chunks of blue cheese made it smokey, salty, and savory. The complimentary dinner rolls were fresh, warm and delicious paired with balsamic and olive oil and/or lemon butter.
The decor of Ruthies is a different story. The holes in the booth seats are just unacceptable for a restaurant charging this much for food (6oz filet is $38, 10oz is $48). The carpet, the wall art, the glass tubes with lights inside, the floofy light fixture things—all of it needs major updating fit for a fine dining restaurant. Barely audible music made the dining space uncomfortably quiet which is just an unnecessary oversight. The space isn’t modern but it also isn’t classic 60’s steakhouse either, which could actually be charming. It’s stuck somewhere in no man’s land and is decidedly….casino.
Our waitress was lovely and did a fine job.
In all our tab for a bottle of wine, a shared wedge salad, 2 steaks and 2 sides was $145 plus $25 for a tip, total $170. My wife and I agree we won’t rush back for that amount of money. For us, Ruthies was a 3.0...
Read moreWe used to love dining here. I think we are finally done trying. Our server was new. Not a problem, we have both been in the service industry and completely understand. When my other half ordered the steak special, she said she didn't know what it was, but assured us she would figure it out. What he received was a steak (cooked correctly, at least) on a plate. Juice splattered on the plate, none of the seasoning/rub nor accompianents for the special. When questioned, she said, OH, the May special. I guess I didn't realize that! I ordered a lobster tail. 🦞 It arrived with no melted butter and it was cold to the touch. She refilled our water and then took 20 minutes to remember the melted butter. I explained that it was cold. 15 minutes later I got my meal back. The sides were no longer warm, my partner had finished his steak and couldn't even get a second drink. There was no offer of dessert and our check was dropped off. We intended to use some of our food credit and pay the rest. She took our cards, used comp from our cards and brought them back with someone else's receipt in our folder. We gave up. Our server's parting words were...I hope you have a better night. Apparently the fantastic manager that was there is gone and the restaurant part has been sold. We can't justify the prices for the food when the quality and service is so low. We used to rave about Ruthie's to everyone and would take people there for special occasions. Now we will have to ensure that we retract the recommendations. I'm so sad it has turned...
