Ordered a cake for a dear friends graduation for her Nurse Practitioner. Provided a picture and sat down and explained in detail what I wanted. Heart Shaped double layer with the design exactly like the photo I gave them. The cake I received was round not heart shaped, the decor on the sides was not added as requested. When I pointed out the discrepancy when I picked up the cake from the young lady who took my order was, "I don't know what they did". Throwing people under the bus when she did not write down everything I asked for. The reason I drive to Slaton from Lubbock is the quality of their product. I was very disappointed. Photo in the box is what I got after I added my own bows and the other is the picture I provided.

This is a treasured local bakery. Someone recommended I get the ginger snaps and I didn't realize I could pick them up at a store, but visiting the mother ship allowed me to pick up items they don't distribute. The thumbprint cookies are topped with buttercream. I'm used to these filled with jam, but it's a top hit. It's worth a visit with the friendly and helpful staff -- it's just not meant for having a coffee and dining in, so be prepared to carry out more than you can reasonably eat. I got a selection of cookies (all excellent) and the coke cake and banana nut bread. They also have banana pudding, various breads, and doggie doughnuts.

I read about the Slaton Bakery in the Texas Monthly. I was compelled to stop for a visit while on a road trip from Texas to Arizona. The staff was helpful and quick to wait on me.  They offered several samples for me to try. The buttery vanilla wafers were my favorite. I tried the ginger snaps and the sugar cookie which was very good. I purchased  a package of vanilla wafers to take home and used them to make banana pudding since they gave me the recipe. On the spicy savory side check out the delicious trail mix. I would recommend you stop and enjoy a sweet treat, savory treat and a bit of history.

Lived in Lubbock 20 years. Surrounded by some amazing bakeries but decided to drive out to slaton bakery to pick some goodies up for my husbands birthday. I have always heard how amazing this place is. I did not special order anything I called and was told they has some cakes made in the fridge. I get there staff was nice I purchased a strawberry cake. Tortillas. Iced cookies and some dog treats. The tortillas amazing. Iced cookies good but overly sweet. Dog treats dogs loved them. Cake it was recommended to keep refrigerated I also asked if they could write on it and they did for a extra charged the writing was not pretty and I wasn't asked if I wanted a certain color they just used a dark orange. I would have chose a different color if asked. I would have specified had I have known she took the cake back for writing. But I took it regardless. Come time to serve I kept refrigerated as suggested and it was pretty gross out of the fridge. The icing was like playdoh and to much just globbed on, the cake was stiff no flavor. I left it out over night we had some for lunch. The icing was sliding off in big clumps but made a huge difference in taste. However it wasn't the authentic homemade strawberry cake you would expect. Not completely disappointed but I was hoping for so much more considering the hype Will I drive that far again ? That is undecided. Most likely not....

The line moved quickly even though the place was packed during the Banana Pudding Festival they hosted. I really enjoyed the Festival! I purchased a dinosaur cookie, an iced Texas cookie, an apple fritter, two cherry hand pies, chicken salad on a croissant, and jalapeño Cheddar bread. The prices are reasonable. The cookies I found to be very dry and short. The pies don't have icing and the crust isn't flaky like I expected its chewy and reminds me of Najavo fry bread texture wise. They only sell their thumbprint cookies by the dozen. The chicken salad wasn't bad. It had hardboiled eggs in it which I don't like, but they were small enough I didn't mind them. Pretty straightforward chicken salad no celery in it unless I couldn't detect it. I've tried quite a few of their baked goods at various times and thought this time everything would be really fresh because of the large crowds they were going to have. It doesn't matter when I go anything I've had has been dry, crumbly, and missing something to be spot on. Nice place, great history...I'm personally not a fan of the...
