30.00 14 ounce ribeye was disappointing. The chicken fry was a tad tough and very thick. The good : The steak was cooked to perfection. The not so good: Lacked flavor no seasoning at all even though the1809 seasoning was requested it was very bland. The food sat in the back for a bit as the waitress was the only one working phones, take out and tables, so the food came cool. Kept hearing the bell ring over and over and we were the only ones waiting on food it was 11ish. You would think the folks in back would have ran her food for her to keep it from getting cold or at the least reheat. Sides were pretty cold. Hard to eat cold mashed potatoes. Would have liked a refill to finish up our food but she had several things going at once. Not a huge deal breaker there. We Took a mini day trip just for this lunch and to try the 30.00 dollar ribeye knew it was going to be pricey. Spent close to 100.00 for lunch for two this included a 12 tip. We don't mind dropping a bill on lunch but expectations are high with that price tag for lunch. Even though it didn't meet the expectation this visit we will return eventually to try a burger. The pretzel and cheese saved the experience. It was the best thing we had (unfortunately). I don't know if my suggestion matters but I'm going to leave it anyway. The 1809 seasoning if it is meant to be very bland a description or explanation of that would be nice so one could request the steak be more seasoned. It's a pricey steak it should be extremely good. You expect to leave saying "Worth it" The chicken fry needs to be flattened some so it will lend a more tender bite. When ever I order the basic chicken fried steak and it comes looking like a thick ball of breaded meat it's instant regret. I did read reviews before taking the trip and the pics of the chicken fry looked alot different than what was brought to me so maybe we showed up on a bad cook day. I did include a pic of my plate. One thing I found odd was the half piece of toast on my plate lol to me that's just lazy take the toast off all together rather than serve someone a half a piece of bread lol. Ahwell Nevertheless we will be back to try a...
Read moreWe chose this restaurant because I had never had a schnitzel before & have seen them in german street food videos on YouTube. So I ordered the Jaggerschnitzel, which was topped with a traditional mushroom gravy & I really enjoyed it! I think it was a bit overdone because the breading was slightly burnt but I have never had one so I don't know if that was intentional or not 🤔 My sides were the mac n chz & sauerkraut, which both were great! My husband had the Ribeye (medium) with a side salad & the loaded mashed potatoes. Salad was really good it was not just a boring side salad & the loaded mashed potatoes were really yummy!!! His steak was definitely rare not medium (it was blue) & it was really chewy. I imagine the chewiness came from not being cooked long enough. (He is a firm believer in not sending anything back unless the kitchen is in full view, for those wondering why he didn't send it back.) But the pretzel.... CHEESE AND RICE that dang PRETZEL!!!! Just so so yummy!! I gave atmosphere a 4-star because we really couldn't even enjoy our meal due to the unbelievable amount of flies. I know something like flies can't be controlled but geez have someone grab a fly swatter & start killing the 15 flies that were at the front door at least. (And for this saying they don't want dead fly guts in their food, that's why I said for them to just kill them by the door because it's far from any tables.) If it wasn't for the flies the atmosphere would have absolutely been 5 stars because it is just really cozy and so cute in there! Just the exact definition of a small town mom and pop local joint that several have tried to recreate in movies. Service!! If I could give service 357 stars I would! 😀 We will be back because I want to try other things on the menu & of course I'll have the pretzel again! I do recommend you go try this restaurant because it was worth the 1 hour drive for us to...
Read moreWe stopped overnight in this little town and a quick Google search for local eateries led us to Texas 1809. It’s a small restaurant and the bar is definitely popular with the locals. Atmosphere: it’s a little worn and loud but not unbearably so. The restaurant was clean. There were USB charging ports at each booth which was a surprise. Food: the menu had everything from steaks, salmon, burgers/sandwiches, and German specialties. We ordered an 8oz sirloin with German potato salad and red cabbage, country fried steak with green beans and mushrooms, jager schnitzel with mac -n- cheese and mushrooms, and wood fired grilled chicken with mixed veggies and German potato salad. All of the meats were cooked perfectly, flavorful, and not dry. The sides were hit and miss. The cabbage, green beans and mushrooms were under seasoned, which was disappointing considering the proteins were so well seasoned and cooked. The German potato salad had a nice tang and was fairly close to what we’ve had on our travels in Germany. The veggies were nicely seasoned and grilled. The Mac-n-cheese received no complaints from my daughter. We also ordered fried pickles which were delightfully crispy and not heavily breaded. The house made ranch was also good. We ordered a slice of chocolate cake to share for a sweet finish. Three out of four of us enjoyed the almost mug-cake like fudgy texture. Service: We had great service. We were seated promptly and the server was attentive without hovering. Additionally, our food came out in a timely manner and everything was at the correct temperature. Overall, Texas 1809 exceeded our expectations. Definitely swing by for a meal if you are...
