We found a new favorite spot tonight: Downstairs Restaurant in Smithfield, RI – and wow, what an adventure!

We showed up around 3:30, and then the skies opened up with rain, thunder, lightning… the kind that makes you feel it in your chest. 💥⚡ The bangs were so loud that staff were checking on their coworkers outside. We even lost power a couple times – but the team didn’t miss a beat. They laughed, kept things fun, and treated us like we’d been coming here for years.

The vibe? Relaxed, quirky, and full of personality. 🍿 From the popcorn when we sat down, to the hilarious booth cushions (Erica got a hot dog and a cheeseburger for company), to the bathrooms that were an adventure of their own – everything about this place just makes you smile.

The food? Absolute standouts. 🍗 Bone-in wings with their house-made buffalo: ⏩ perfection. 🔥 Boneless tenders with garlic bread buffalo : ⏩possibly the best I’ve ever had. 🍔 Erica’s Nashville hot chicken sandwich: ⏩ Mouth wateringly Epic. 😁 And yes… those tater tot–style fries were amazing too. 👨‍🍳 The chef even came out to bring the boneless wings and chat with us, which just shows how much they care.

This was one of those rare spots where the food, the people, and the atmosphere all hit 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We’ll be back. You should check it out.

Had a 40th birthday party here last night for my husband, and it couldn't have gone any better! The food was great and reminiscent of what we would eat "back in the day". During the night i learned that @caras kitchen did the catering, which I'm not sure how that worked since it was stuff off of Downstairs' menu, but the woman in charge of the food was very attentive to the buffet area and made sure we had everything we needed. When i arrived to set up, the manager working was so helpful in setting everything up and had great ideas about where/how to place things. She also was very attentive throughout the night and checked in often. The party was "throwback style" and I really did not need to provide much of anything to have the vibe I wanted, the restaurant has many nostalgic items everywhere and kept my party guest talking. The more you look around the more you notice. And with the games, it was great for all the ages we had there. The owner also booked a dj for us who was amazing! We had such a great time and I would definitely recommend them and will keep them in mind for any future...

Went to try this place out on Wednesday around 2:30 walked in there tables taken and one person sitting at the bar. There was a gentleman speaking to one table that was occupied no signs to tell you if you seat yourself or wait gentleman behind the bar on his phone stood there for a few minutes until he acknowledged us which we then asked do we seat ourselves and his response sure someone will be right over. He then continued on his call. We found one clean table sat down no food menu on the table a few minutes later the gentleman that was chatting at the table next to us comes over and says do you know what you want to drink? Not yet can you give us a minute was our reply. 15min later still sitting no one came back! That gentleman took the customer at the bar out back and disappeared the gentleman that was on his phone walked out to the front part of the restaurant still on his phone. After 20min of waiting no on came around so we left. I understand you just opened however, 20min of waiting and no one to be found I don’t think that’s a good...
