I'll start by saying my family has been a huge fan of El Barzon for a couple of years now - dining on average once or twice a month. Every time the food was absolutely exceptional, and we all cleared our plates. Unfortunately, the last three dining experiences (including today's) were sub par at best - cheese dip and chips served cold, food overcooked and bland, and in one case had to wait over an hour for food. Today's meal consisted of two different fajita orders and the Chicken ACP and all three were overcooked and not seasoned. The meals were edible, not delectable - not good for a $60 meal. Based on the other reviews it seems there is an inconsistency in food quality depending on who is working in the kitchen, so I would advise caution - your experience may be different depending on the time or day? I will say the servers have always been very pleasant and attentive - the issue is clearly in...
Read moreWe went there for lunch and not many people were there. We placed our order and then two other people came in. We waited forever to get our food even though the other two people who came in after us got their food before us. The waitress finally brought our appetizer then my husbands meal and there I sat waiting for my food. When she finally brought my dinner I asked her to please box all of our food. When cashing out the cashier asked how my food was and I told her I wouldn’t know since I didn’t taste it. Service was so slow with hardly anyone there I would hate to be there on a busy day. The food I finally tasted at home and I have to say it was the worse Mexican food I have eaten in this area. Everything was salty and it had cinnamon in it...who makes Mexican rice, tamales or enchiladas with cinnamon? I will definitely not be going back...
Read moreOur new “favorite Restaurant” This was the best Mexican food, And possibly the best meal we’ve been served in NC. There was very little left to bring home for our Pup’s lol. It was just THAT GOOD. I’m brutally honest when I write a review. But, I can’t say anything but good things about El Barzon. From the mixed drinks to the thickness of the taco shells. It was great! We enjoyed a Rum&coke and a Margarita before we ate and I had three beef tacos and we shared her Texan fajita. Everything was clean and the staff was friendly and attentive. A little more expensive than other restaurants of this type but, Well worth it. If you’re in Smithfield and thinking of Mexican food, This...
