Newport Creamery — Restaurant in Smithfield

Absolutely disgusting conditions, would’ve been better eating out of the dumpster outside. We arrived almost 2 hours prior to closing for some ice cream treats and food for our kiddos and found the floors covered in food, filthy tables, staff clearly could care less. We were seated at a table covered in a sticky wet variety of things, after asking for napkins to clean it ourselves and not being given any my husband ran to the car to get sanitizing wipes. We would’ve left well before this if the kids didn’t have their hearts set on ice cream for my daughters birthday. The staff seemed to let our poor waitress Ariana, run the entire show. She was great, very sweet, and we felt bad for her. She did try to clean a few tables in down time while other employees sat at the counters. Our feet stuck to the floors throughout the restaurant and during our entire stay there all the dirty tables (roughly 10) remained dirty. When our food was ready we could see it sit under the lamp from our table while one employee walked back and forth by it without a second glance. My husband and I hadn't had Newport Creamery in what felt like forever, and decided to grab lunch as we were passing by the Greenville branch. We were welcomed in and sat at a booth right near a large window with a view of traffic as it flowed. I decided to try the new "fresh summer salad" they were offering on their specials menu, and my husband had the tuna melt, both of which came out in just a few minutes. The salad had fresh blackberries and strawberries and came with a special dressing and was perfect for summer. My husband enjoyed his tuna melt and said it tasted just like he remembered. Of course, we finished off with a couple of sundaes for dessert, and they did not disappoint. The restaurant was clean, brightly lit and had family-friendly music playing which gave a really welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. Props to the staff and young man who must have been the manager, they were all working like a well-oiled machine and were laughing/smiling with each other and the other diners, making the place feel full of joy. We will definitely be stopping here more often, not many places have stood the test of time but it seems the Greenville RI Newport Creamery still knows how to do it! the last time i came here, service was pretty slow, and we weren’t asked if we wanted another drink after quickly finishing them. we didn’t ever get offered another drink until we were about to leave.

we just recently came back, to give it another chance, and it was not good. it took 15 minutes to be seen, despite there being 4 tables in the restaurant. we seemed to be our server’s only table, yet it took 15 minutes for an awful awful. there was no ice cream line

i got my root beer float and it was very clearly overflowing all over the table. i was told “we’re gonna pretend it’s not overflowing” as a joke, but it was EXCESSIVELY messy. had to use all my napkins to clean it and was never offered any MORE napkins even for the food when it arrived. also wasn’t provided a spoon to eat the overflowing ice cream to minimize the mess. i had to go find myself a plastic sample spoon because neither waitresses were anywhere to be seen.
