Beautiful building and pleasant ambiance. The romance ends there however. The wait staff was very unprofessional and unrefined. They need some basic training in courtesy and customer service. Questions were answered abruptly and with sarcasm. Once we were seated, an eternity passed before our presence was acknowledged by a server.
The food was definitely not what I would have expected from the other reviews that I've read. The bread appeared to have been purchased at a supermarket discount outlet. The butter tasted like it had been left for a very long time exposed in a refrigerator and had taken on a plethora of other flavors and odors.
The drink list contained "Phillips Mill Sparkling Water" so we asked for bottled water. The waiter abruptly replied, "We don't have it." We looked at the menu again, showed it to him, and he replied, "We don't have any." No drink options other than soft drinks and coffee--completely unacceptable for a "French" restaurant. We attempted to drink the tap water that was served to us but the odor and taste of chlorine was overpowering.
The rock shrimp special was full of shell and was tasteless. The leek salad should have been renamed, "Limp, lifeless leeks." They were boiled to death and tasteless. The veal medallions were extremely salty--not a good situation to be in when acceptable drinking water isn't available.
The beets, mashed sweet potato and roasted potato garnish were the highlight of the dinner.
It is BYOB. They should indicate "BYOW" as well (bring your own water).
It is cash only. That should have been the first red flag.
From the exterior, it appeared very quaint, charming and, judging from the number of customers, very popular. One truly should not judge a book by...
Read moreFailed to mention that our party of 13 would not be seated together. Mind you this is our family holdiay dinner and we would have never made the reservation if we knew this to be the case, but this didn’t stop the management and waitstaff from arguing and trying to put them blame on us. No accommodations were made at all. While the food was delicious, the service was slow. Our waters were filled once we sat down and not again until we asked at desert. Server was clearly overwhelmed, appeared as though she had too many tables. This really seems like a case of poor restaurant management all around. Its such a shame because the food was delicious, although mine didn’t come out until after others at the table had already finished eating. We ignored the bad service and inability to accommodate our group, but as we said goodbye the staff up front continued to blame us for the reservation hiccup on the way out the door! This is the type of business that responds to a conflict or bad review defensively instead of actually confronting the problem and seeing what can be done to rectify it. Moral of the story, the food was great, but the chairs were horrible. Very...
Read moreSome of the folks at the front desk should be fired. I've never been so condescended to in my life. I went in on 12-22-2018 to purchase a gift card. This women with short red hair basically ignored me for 10 minutes, seating 3 couples that came in after me. She finally asked for my name, I said I was there for a gift card. Her response was a chuckle and she said "oh they don't pay ME enough to do gift cards, you need "Linda" (I actually forget the name of this person). Waited another 5 min, and "Linda" came to the front, the women with short red hair told her what i was there for. She said "ohhhhhh well your going to have to wait five minutes". I told her fine but rolled my eyes a little bit and she picked up on my frustration and said "well y'know we're not even supposed to do gift cards here, you should have gone to the office". That was it, I had enough. Really it was their tone throughout - it was flat out insulting. I will never return again, there are tons of other local places that are more appreciative and deserving of...
