To say that our food was horrendous today, August 1, 2021, is an understatement. This morning, we decided, after looking at your website online and the promise of a special breakfast, to drive 50 minutes from where we live in South Brunswick, NJ to your establishment. Our breakfast was on the expensive side for 3 people, over $74.00 with the tip. My son's eggs (he ordered over easy) were basically like eating raw, runny (cold) eggs. I've never seen eggs over easy look like gross raw eggs before! His single slice of white toast arrived cold, and unbuttered, with a sad pat of butter on the side that had no chance of melting on the bread. His side of feta tasted old and bad, probably retrieved from some back, forgotten corner of a refrigerator, and his side of avocado was hard and almost unmashable. For me, my two scrambled eggs looked like 1, and to add insult to injury, they were totally cold as was my toast, and the bacon- which may have been good if it hadn't also been ice cold. The home fries were the only hot item on our plates, and I'm assuming that everything else got cold waiting for the home fries to be cooked. Sadly, they were greasy on the outside and dry on the inside, if you can imagine that! I ordered a slice of Swiss and spinach quiche and specified it was to go, but it was delivered to the table on a plate despite my clear request that it was to go! My son and I tasted it, hoping that at least the quiche might redeem the miserable breakfast, but we immediately realized it was tasteless, so we didn't even bother to ask for it to be wrapped up to take home. My daughter in law ordered a vanilla yogurt with fruit, and that was edible . Sadly, it was the only thing anybody in our party didn't hate (probably because it didn't require any cooking). I really can't believe that you charge the prices you do and provide such horrendously subpar, basically inedible fare. If anybody is interested in having a delicious breakfast, I recommend you take the drive to the Food Shack on the boardwalk in Point Pleasant or Patti's in Normandy Beach (NJ) where the simple breakfast food is actually fresh and delicious and makes its customers so glad that they...
Read moreThe cyclist friendly Lumberville General Store is a little oasis along the river. During the day, they offer breakfast and lunch as well as a variety of pastries and coffee/tea.
Remodeled in 2016, the store and its outside patio area maintain the charming, rustic appeal that brings so many to the area.
A nice touch is the addition of some essentials for passing cyclists, including high-quality Continental tubes, tire irons and CO2 cartridges.
I recently had the pleasure of attending the Dinner Club, convinced by my wife who had gone to a friend's party there. It was remarkably good - the focaccia tasted fresh out of the oven, served with a nice, fluffy hummus. My wife's monkfish was decent, but the real standout was the spicy pork belly on cheese grits. The pork belly (naturally the most fatty portion of the pig) was a nice mixture of pork meat and unctuous fat, seared to perfection. If you've had pork belly before and like it, you're in for a treat! We finished with a peanut butter caramel pie (photo posted) which was light and delicious. Pie is a misnomer - it was served on a wafer. But this is a good thing. It was reminiscent of the peanut butter wafers I used to love as a kid. Delicious!
In addition the store has a back "party room" (photo posted) which is a great setting for up to 12 people. My wife liked it so much that we're having a small party there for our anniversary.
What holds it back from being a 5-star establishment? A couple things the owner should know:
On several occasions, I've ridden by the store and smelled a strong "septic" odor on the back patio. This seems to have dissipated recently, but I'd be hesitant to eat back there for fear that it would come back. The first time I came, shortly after it reopened, I had a scone, which was the worst I've ever had - it had no flavor and tasted like the baker forgot to add sugar. I still haven't purchased any baked goods again for fear that my $3-$5 would be wasted and since I'm a good baker myself, I typically bring my own baked goods when I ride.
I'll update my review in the future if I find the store has eliminated the odor and improved...

I appreciate the acknowledgement, but I put a lot of time into writing a detailed review about my visit. I noticed that other reviews here received more thoughtful responses, and I just want to be clear that all customers’ feedback deserves equal appreciation. I hope in the future everyone’s experience is valued the same way.
While riding along the Delaware Canal Towpath Trail, my father and I decided to stop by the Lumberville General Store, and it turned out to be a delightful experience. Nestled in a charming, small-town setting, the store offers a welcoming and cozy atmosphere that makes it a perfect spot for a casual meal.
I ordered the big cheeseburger with French fries, and it exceeded my expectations. The burger was hearty and flavorful, cooked to perfection, and generously topped with fresh ingredients. The fries were crisp on the outside and tender on the inside—classic comfort food done right. My father ordered a chicken slider, which he also enjoyed and found tasty and satisfying.
For cyclists, they have bike racks outside, providing a safe and convenient place to leave your bikes while you enjoy your meal.
Beyond the food, the staff was friendly and attentive, adding to the warm, inviting vibe of the store. It felt like a place where locals gather, yet still accessible and enjoyable for visitors passing through.
Whether you’re stopping by during a ride on the Delaware Canal Towpath Trail or just looking for a casual, satisfying meal in Lumberville, the General Store is a solid choice. We’ll definitely be returning on our next visit to enjoy more...
