First time for us in a B & B . The location was about 15 min from New Hope & a nice , easy ride . The 1740 house looked quaint & cute upon arrival . Check in was easy & we were showed to our room #5 . The hall had an odd smell as well as the room . It just smelled " old " is the best way to describe it . We couldn't wait to air it out ! The smell wasn't acceptable, because if my home smelled like this it would not be pleasant . So I think they should be aware it could be a deal breaker for some . Only 1 other person in a review mentioned a " smell " and that was mentioned about room 5 . At any rate there are lots of scent enhancers that can be used & I would think they would check on this & try to make it better . The room was cute . Nicely decorated & appeared very clean . The linens looked fresh & bathroom was very clean . All a big plus ! Some mentioned the bed was a bit hard . I felt that it was firm but acceptable . The pillows were fluffy & there were 4 . I found one that was good for me . I would imagine there are many varied opinions about pillows & I think it would be difficult to make everyone happy . The view from the room was very pretty . All rooms have either a patio or balcony that looks out upon the river . There is a door to access the patio. We had a room with a fireplace & king bed . The headboard squeaked everytime we moved or sat propped up against it to read , so my husband put a pillow behind it . We barely used the fireplace because the room was so hot, even though it was 40 degrees over night . I didn't see an individual temp control in the room & we had to put on the ceiling fan & AC in October . We were looking forward to using the fireplace !!! Which was extra $ when chosing a room. The TV was in an armoire but swiveled to make it viewable from bed. Also a loveseat was under the window . We had dinner at the B & B which was in a quaint dining room looking out onto the river . There is also a bar . Our food was a large portion & delicious. I had the butternut squash ravioli in a mushroom sage cream sauce with spinach . That was really good & priced at $28 . My husband had meatloaf ( Angus beef & turkey) mashed potatoes, asparagus $ 24 . The beer was $4 a glass for yuengling & Miller lite . We were too full for dessert. Our server was attentive & polite . After dinner we tried to get some sleep but the people in the room above us were walking around from 11 pm til 12:30 causing the floor to creak constantly . Needless to say. It wasn't the best nights sleep. I think a room upstairs would have been better . We had to be up for breakfast before 9:30 . It's served I think 8-9:30 . You let them know the evening before what time you will be at breakfast so they can have a piece of frittata ready . The rest of the breakfast is served as continental. I found this a bit of a pain because I may have wanted to sleep in and being at breakfast by 9 is a bit early & rushed .( I assume most are here for a leisurely getaway.)Maybe during weekends when it's crowded I could understand this ,but there was a max of 8 people, so couldn't they heat the frittata as people arrived ? That was all they had to serve , the rest was out on a sideboard. All of the staff was very nice & pleasant . I was deeply disappointed that the tow path was not accessible from the B & B . There is a steep embankment that does not allow access . We walked on the main road about 10 min to access a pedestrian bridge that crossed the river to NJ. There weren't any sidewalks . The view from the bridge was beautiful! The bathroom was clean and spacious . Towels were plush . We had difficulty regulating the water as the knobs were a bit " off" . The spray seemed to be on the lower end coming out of the shower. Perhaps they have a water saver head . The water stayed hot for the entire shower. Some positives some negatives ...I guess a B & B is not for everyone . We wanted to experience it ! But the smell , the lack of access to the river & the creaky floor above us is making us long for a more modern place to...
Read moreWe were excited to try our first B & B after visiting New Hope! |We had a lovely drive winding along the Delaware River after leaving New Hope . It was an easy ride . |Check in & appearance - Check in was between 2 & 5 . It was easy & we were shown to our room #5 ( 1st floor near the end ) . The 1740 house is a long building with the office , dining room, bar located in the center .There also is a common courtyard with tables . There are several sections with their own entry to the rooms |My initial impression was it's a cute B & B . |Check in we were greeted with a smile . ||Our room - #5 was at the right side as you pull in the driveway. We were excited to our room . All rooms have a balcony or patio facing the Delaware. |As we entered our building there was a smell which I will call " old" in the description for lack of anything else . The room itself also smelled " old" . I couldn't wait to open the door or window to air it out . The room appeared very clean and orderly. The bathroom spotless . So we were happy with that . We also had a door to the patio and a view of the river! | The linens were clean . 4 pillows on the bed that were a bit overstuffed for me . I did find one that worked for the night .||Dining room- We made a reservation for dinner . It was a quaint dining room & bar that was cozy & a short walk from our room. We had a 6 pm reservation and by 6:30 the place was getting full. It's only for B& B guests and " club" members . So no walk in street traffic. |The beer was priced fairly at $4 a tall glass . For dinner I got butternut squash ravioli in a mushroom sage cream sauce with spinach . My husband had meatloaf , fresh asparagus & mashed potatoes. Both meals were plentiful & delicious . Service iwas prompt & attentive . We had a very nice meal . ||Sleeping / bed/ room .. The bed was a bit firm for my liking but not uncomfortable. I did have a tough time finding a pillow that was comfortable. But that's almost impossible to satisfy everyone's taste with only 4 pillows . |The room was very hot ! I did not find a thermostat & finally had to out the AC on . We had a king bed with a fireplace which was nice . It's additional in price but it was unfortunate that it was so hot in the room & was in the 40' s outside !! I expected the room to be chilly if anything . As the night went on I was awoken by creaky noises in the room above me . Everytime someone walked the floor creaked and I could hear a door close as well . This went on from 11 pm til 12:30!!!! Needless to say it wasn't a great night's sleep . Shower had "water saver " spray & was difficult to regulate . ||Tow Path - I was excited that inn was located along the tow path on the Delaware . But unfortunately there wasn't any access from the inn. We did walk down the main road to access the pedestrian bridge which goes from PA to NJ . That was very scenic & enjoyable . |The main road does not have sidewalks , so we walked on the grass about 20 min to the bridge . I guess from the other reviews or the inn description I expected direct access to the tow path. I was wrong . ||Breakfast - you put in your request the prior evening as to what time you expect to be in the dining room. They served a piece of frittata & also had a continental breakfast of rolls / bread , yogurt , fruit ,loaf cake , hard boiled eggs , coffee , tea & juice . It was enough to satisfy & included with the room which made it convenient. ||Overall... The smell in the room could be a deal breaker for some . |Beautiful view . Access to tow path .. disappointing . Everyone working there was pleasant . Noise on floor above didn't allow for a good nights sleep. |Only 15 min drive from New Hope . Price of dinner was reasonable & good quality |Patio furniture was not comfortable & table top was broken . I also wasn't sure if the building was locked from the outside at night ( so check into that ,) allowing anyone access to the hallway . ||Will we return ....I think we prefer a more modern place that doesn't have noise above us and has access to...
Read moreLovely setting for the hotel. The hotel's ambience is charming and every room has a river view, it seems. The rooms are clean, the shower is fine, etc. We have stayed here 3 times, so we like it. Some rooms are spacious and wonderful. Our last room, however, was very small, and not very comfortable (room #12). Apart from the bed, there were two hard wooden chairs at the foot of the bed. The TV was to the left of the bed, and to the right of the chairs, making it perpendicular to them so that there was no way of using it. In addition, the women at the front desk seem to have forgotten that they are working in the hospitality business. We were early for check-in, and understood we may not be able to check in right away. The first woman curtly told us we were early, but she was at least kind enough to let us know she can call us when the room is ready. She did so within half an hour and we headed back. When we got back, there was another woman at the front desk, and she was short with us, telling us we are early and the room is not ready. We told her we had been called, and she backed off and let us in, but it was not a good way to treat guests. In addition, the breakfast, is varied in its offerings that include varied fruits, cake, cereal, juices, etc. It is served in a lovely restaurant overlooking the river. The staff (cook?) was gracious when we arrived earlier for breakfast than we had signed up for. They had prepared a very beautiful looking frittata-a work of art! However, that beauty...
