Brunch at The Lauber offered a delightful blend of traditional favorites with a modern dining experience. Although the digital-only menus initially presented a slight hiccup for us as newcomers, it hinted at a dynamic and innovative approach that could potentially allow the kitchen to showcase its creativity. The variety on the menu was whimsical and catered to a range of tastes, hinting at the kitchen's playful take on brunch classics. However, there was a confusing moment when we spotted 'the hangover,' a dish listed as vegetarian yet seemingly included bacon. This was a curiosity I regrettably didn't get a chance to clarify during our visit. It was Joseph, our server, who truly elevated our dining experience with his excellent hospitality and attentive service. He navigated us through the digital menu with ease and was quick to offer insights into the restaurant's diverse offerings. His professional and warm demeanor ensured that we felt taken care of throughout our meal. I opted for the "Lauber Favorite," the chicken and biscuits, and it didn't disappoint. The dish struck a perfect balance between hearty and flavorful, with a spicy sausage gravy that tantalized the taste buds, crispy chicken, and airy biscuits that seemed to melt in the mouth. We also shared a Mini Cinnamon Roll bite skillet, a delightful sweet interlude that provided a delightful contrast to the savory depth of the main dish. My companion's choice, the harvest bowl, was a verdant feast, generously portioned and topped with a beautifully blackened salmon that was nothing short of expertly prepared. The meal was accompanied by a couple of festive martini selections—the Pumpkin Spice Espresso martini and a Snickerdoodle martini. Both were a hit on the flavor front, though the caramel garnish of the latter was a tad overenthusiastic, resulting in a sweet, sticky tableau on our table. In terms of value, the experience was exceptional. For a delightful foray into brunch that offers ample servings, creative dishes, and spirited drinks, The Lauber is a standout recommendation. Despite the small digital menu hiccup and the runaway caramel, our brunch was a pleasurable adventure that I'd eagerly recommend to fellow brunch enthusiasts.

My parents had been raving about The Lauber for a while before COVID hit. With a large outdoor patio, they told me it would be great for when summer finally arrived in South Bend. Now, with outdoor dining being the preference, The Lauber is a great option for your sunny day dining. Right now, their entire menu is online. They offer sandwiches and salads, but what really stands out is their artisan pizza. I ordered the Butcher Town (read as meat lovers). They use fresh Italian sausage, but what really puts it over the top is the honey oil drizzle. My girlfriend got the Green Goat without the peppadew because she finds all peppers to be a little too spicy. Regardless, she loved it and was amazed at how well avocado goes on pizza. As far as drinks go, they have a great selection of beer, wine, and liquors. I had the Endless Color, which is a nice wheat beer. My girlfriend ordered the Triple Jam, which is now her new favorite cider. There are also plenty of non-alcoholic options available. On the weekends, they offer brunch from 11-2. With special menu items and drinks, it is something I will likely check out in the future. In particular, they have a seasonally flavored cinnamon roll.

Went there for a Christmas season lunch with the wife. Was not disappointed with The Lauber. Nestled inside the repurposed Lauber Sheetmetal Factory, the place has a fun charm that adds to their atmosphere. Started off with a few drinks. My Old Fashion was excellent. My wife tried The Dramamatrix stout, which was excellent as well. We then moved to starters, she having the The Tin Can Nachos and selection the Dippty Dough Da. Frankly, we could have just split one, but it was Christmas. Both appetizers were excellent in both taste and presentation. The Lauber’s menu is not extensive but it surely is a crowd pleaser. My wife selected the Mac & Cheese Grilled Cheese with the smoked brisket. I went for the Lauber, their burger. The burger was two 1/4 lbs ground rib meat on a toasted brioche bun. It was beyond a good burger! The patties were flavorful & juicy with the right amount of condiments on it. BTW, their pickles on this burger are AMAZING. We ended the meal with their Warm Butter Cake which was absolutely delicious. I feel that I should mention the mention photos show an empty restaurant because of the pandemic and do not reflect at all the amazing food and service The Lauber has.

I was pretty disappointed by my experience here. It started off frustrating because I couldn’t find any parking. Though they have a dedicated lot, it holds <20 cars. You then have to hope Macri’s has room in their lot, which they didn’t. This leads to street parking which is completely hit or miss, I ended up parking 2 blocks away thus making me late for lunch even though I arrived 10 min early. I can normally look past parking if the food is great. However, I was once again disappointed. I heard the pizza here was bomb so I ordered the Show Stopper. You can judge for yourself from my picture if this is a pizza worthy of $14. It seemed to have a ton of arugula, no “tomato jam” and barely any cheese. Disappointed is an understatement. On top of all that, during a 2 hour lunch, our server checked on us a total of 3 times. Meaning our waters were constantly empty and we waited 30 min to get our check. I do like that they have Toast as a payment system so the credit card gets processed right at the table, like in Europe. Overall, definitely won’t be back. This entire experience was disappointing, especially when I could’ve just gone to Carmella’s next door. Will not be back.

My first time coming here I wasn’t expecting to like it so much, but I did get a little hooked during my stay. I usually come in nearing dinner time so of course its usually busy if not packed, but I’ve never waited long. The restaurant looks nice and clean, the staff are kind, and the bartenders and waiters/ waitresses have good suggestions even if everything on the menu sounds good. I’ve tried different things here and unfortunately there is a dish or two that they aren’t currently serving now but was it divine! As far as I know they aren’t serving the penne vodka which for me, was quite addicting, I could slurp down that bad boy and one of their desserts, the butter cake. If I ever see butter cake on a restaurant menu that is my go-to happy ending. So, if Lauber could bring that back, that’d be lovely, thank you! They do have other wonderful choices down from their tasty appetizers to their entrees. At least try their dippity dough da or even one of their specialty pizzas because they have a good way of slapping those things together. And if you’re not hungry they have a variety of alcoholic beverages and non-alcoholic of course if you’re into that sort of thing.

Really enjoyed our experience here. We had the dough pieces with beer cheese for an appetizer. A couple things on this dish that I think could improve it, make the dough slightly sweeter to give it more character or maybe ever go for a sourdough. The cheese was different from anything I've ever had before. I believe this is the first place I've ever received beer cheese that was hot. Not sure what beer was used in the recipe, but by baking it with the dish, it seemed to lose the beer flavor and just be more like hot cheese. For the entree we went for a thin crust pizza with sausage, banana peppers and bacon. I'm not sure I would consider this a true thin crust pizza. It didn't have the same crunch when biting into the crust like other places. Great taste overall, just different in an interesting way. For dessert we had the brown cake, which can easily serve two. They serve this with LOTS of whipped cream, a few dried blueberries sprinkled on top of that and a bit of syrup in the bottom of the bowl to dip the cake in. Delish! Service was great from start to finish. Staff are wearing masks as of the writing of this review.
