Darby's Tavern — Restaurant in South Boston

Let’s be honest, there are far and few between restaurants that you can honestly say you enjoy every aspect of. However, Darby’s Tavern makes that easy. The atmosphere is super chill, cozy and fun. But it wouldn’t be that way with out the staff. The staff here knows how to entertain the costumers in a way you don’t see much anymore. They are personable and just the kindest. They don’t meet strangers. Even if it’s your first visit to Darby’s by the time you leave, you feel like you’ve know them all forever. You don’t just leave with a full belly, you leave with new friendships. Like the kind you want to invite to Sunday dinner. Everyone is always smiling and laughing. The staff truly is there for YOU. There isn’t a day that is wrong to go to Darby’s. No matter who is on the schedule you’ll get the same service and quality. Although I have my favorites (Crystal, Lexi, Hanna and Natasha) I have not had bad quality service since Crystal has been managing Darby’s. Now, let’s get to the tasty side of things……the food. I can not tell you one bad thing on the menu. The quality of food is by far one of the tops in South Boston. Shrimp and Grits has to my favorite, but really you can’t go wrong. You don’t need deep pockets either. The prices are so reasonable. In fact, for the amazing quality of food, I’d have to say the prices are THE most reasonable in the area. Let’s not forget the spirits! Hands down the best drinks in the area. I assure you, you will not get this quality drinks in this area anywhere else. I feel so bad for the younger employees that work at this restaurant, Seems to me their management has allowed bums to run their restaurants and allow their older employees stand around and talk on their cell phones while the younger employees slave away for hours at a time. I was there tonight and as I waited for my food, I watched a younger woman with red curly hair slave away cleaning tables, grabbing drinks for tables that weren’t even her table. While two of the older employees stood around, laughing up a storm and being louder than their customers. I thanked the younger woman for all she did for my table and told her to find a better place to go and be appreciated. I hope to see change in this restaurant but I highly doubt it, I used to be a reoccurring customer for this establishment, but recently I’ve noticed more and more that their employees let the teens just do all the busy work and basic tasks anyone could do, I’ve seen 3 teens slave away, one boy with black hair, then one with brown curly hair, possibly siblings I never asked then a sweet curly red head girl. I hope they find a better working conditions then this place since its went down hill, I will not be attending an establishment like this by any means. Pathetic of...

Sheer disappointment. Friends recommended we go after they had been there twice and enjoyed it both times. This time, however, was very different according to them. It started out okay, with the waitress being very friendly, and the appetizers were very good. I should mention that we arrived at 7:30 and didn't eat to put our order in until after 8:00. Once we had our appetizers, everything began to go downhill. The main courses didn't arrive until after 9:30 (mind you we sat down at 7:30), and while we were waiting, our waitress disappeared, and showed up at the table 3 times after we put in our order. We ran out of drinks regularly, and one of our party actually had to go to the bar to get a sparkling water because the waitress wasn't around. Once we had our main dishes, we were disappointed again. The good looked as though it was sitting for 15-20 minutes before it arrived, and it wasn't cooked very well. Two of our party had the shrimp and grits, which were undercooked, two others had mac and cheese, where the cheese congealed on top from sitting so long, and I had the catfish which tasted okay, but was barely warm, and was a very small portion. Overall it was a very bad experience for our party, and I don't think any of us...
