Update 5/13/2013 - My review below still stands but we have had a couple of bad experiences lately - I do not think I will order anything but pizza. History is we average one order every other week or so, eat at the restaurant a lot in summer, and when friends visit for Gamecocks football weekends, we've had orders up to $150. Last week, I was very upset after getting a raw dough stromboli with Italian cold cuts delivered. Not wanting to bother them to make another delivery same night or wait another 45 minutes, I agreed to a credit and the person I spoke to on the phone said he would write down my original order on a "credit board." Tonight I received the credited re-do, added to a $47 order, and this stromboli was even worse. Only cheese--no cold cuts--soggy, greasy, thin crust falling apart, and still layer of raw dough under the cheese on the bottom. What was worse was the bad attitude of the manager when I called to complain--said he would credit me for the meat fillings next time, and not the entire stromboli. Of course, he made me feel very uncomfortable and was not apologetic at all. I had to "get angry" to get him to acknowledge a full credit--but they can keep their frickin' stromboli. Based on Spring 2013 reviews on Urbanspoon, sounds to me their success has gone to their heads. Collins Creek "Hot Rod Pizza" has become a Mexican restaurant and another new competitor AZ went down in Feb 2013 - so perhaps elimination of some competition has made them arrogant? I don't know - we prefer to do business with family-owned local small businesses but now I am rethinking.
ORIGINAL REVIEW -
BEST CANNOLI IN THE WORLD! Was pleasantly AMAZED to find what we who have had cannoli in different Little Italy-style restaurants/pastry shops in NY and the outer boroughs, other major cities, and Italia, believe these to be world class: fresh, crispy, delicate, 100% homemade. The Cannoli at Aroma's in the strip mall across from St. James High School on Route 707 are simply heavenly, the chocolate dipped sinful. While a short trip for Surfside, Garden City and Murrells Inlet locals and vacationers, we would travel from outside the state of South Carolina for these. I have been writing web critiques on the "Battle of the 707 Pizzerias" for a couple of years, both independent and chain pizza shops along this famous route. Aroma's homemade crust and simply perfect tomato sauce is far superior than others in the 707 Battle, pushing them ahead of our former #1 Hot Rods at Collins Creek. PLUS, Aroma's delivers which is rare among the independents on 707. Service at Hot Rods is inconsistent, still not clear on their pizza hours. We will be returning to both to see how performance continues. My one suggestion to Aroma's is they need to work on their meatball and eggplant parmesan recipes--both were overcooked. The former being tough and the latter being overly breaded and overly fried. Our other recommended dish to visitors is any salad with their house balsamic vinagrette--owner Tim has perfected what should be simple but often botched at other restaurants--the ratio of oil to vinegar. ...
Read more6/30/18 UPDATE = While I still like their pizza better than Franco's, Gino's, or Danny's, my wife and I were surprised to see the increase in the lunch special (2 slices and a drink) now costs $5.99, while Danny's is only $4.85, and I think Franko's is only $5.00. This happened only 2 weeks ago, and there was no sign out front or anywhere letting people know. The owner, Tim, needs to get the signs and menus changed first, and then raise the prices, IMO.
Warning about a hidden $2.50 Delivery charge (for "insurance purposes", I was told) that is not on their website's menu, or a printed menu that I picked up at the 707 location a week ago. It's not the money, but the principle of it. I don't like to pay for charges that are not in print, but show up when you call in, or go to pay for your food. I do, however like their pizza, especially when the owner (has gold chains around his neck) makes the pies. They still have the same golden brown bottom vs. black/burnt like Gino's can sometimes do, but the owner's pies are a little more "abundanza". A waitress at Eggs Up Grill in Garden City, SC told me that her many experiences in ordering a pizza pie to go are the same as mine. These are our opinions, after ordering many pizzas, at least.when...
Read moreVery disappointed. We live in the neighborhood right behind Aromas and sadly we were very disappointed with our last delivery order. I ordered 3 pizza kids meals which according to the online menu, are supposed to come with a bag of chips and a soft drink. The delivery man hands me the order and there is only one drink. He tells me he will run back and that I need to call them. I called Aromas and explained that I did not get everything that I ordered. The girl on the phone said she could not find my order. I gave her the order number from the receipt and she finally found it. I explained that the kids meals I ordered had been delivered without 2 of the 3 drinks and no bags of chips. She then placed me on hold without asking and in the middle of my sentence. Another girl gets on the line then and asks how she can help me. I had to go through the story yet again. Then she states that the kids meals no longer come with a bag of chips. They should change that on the menu then! It was not a complex order and they got it wrong. I would not have minded that so much because accidents happen but it was HORRIBLE customer service! Just horrible, not...
