Read moreI have waited over a year to leave this review because I’m mystified how some people have left such positive reviews! It appears it’s just us that feel this way I guess! I have eaten at los Maya‘s over a dozen times.1- it seems to be rather expensive compared to other restaurants of its type that we have eaten at- it’s the only one near our house so that’s not a major sticking point but I did notice. After several month-I feel the upper management has the attitude that they’re doing you a favor when u come there to eat! 2-my wife and I like our shrimp to be pink and cooked, we must be strange I guess! After getting the fajitas for two for a third time and the shrimp, once again barely cooked, white from head to toe and mushy-we made up our minds, not to complain but to specify and directly ask that the shrimp be cooked better when we order it next time. Several weeks later we did! After a long and very polite discussion with the waiter who is upper management, I explained I would like my shrimp cooked well and pink, very pink! I said if it was a steak I would want it well done! He looks at me expressionless turns around and walks away. my wife looked at me and said is he mad at us? I said I’m not sure. 10 or so minutes later here comes the fajitas, barely sizzling on a plate with the biggest pile of green peppers and onions and tomatoes, I have ever seen in my life! What little chicken and steak we could distinguish under the pile of green peppers, look like grains of sand! It had never been like that before! Now the shrimp, yes the shrimp, it’s even whiter, even mushier Then ever before! The added drive as far as we are concerned to our usual Mexican restaurant is definitely worth it!not to mention cheaper...
Read moreI had a really disappointing experience at Los Mayas Mexican Grill in Taylors and sadly, this wasn’t the first time. My family and I have been going since they first opened, hoping things would improve, but every single time, at least one of us ends up getting sick afterward. That should’ve been our sign to stop giving them chances, but we tried to support them as a local spot. Big mistake.
The service wasn’t terrible, just really lazy. We were seated and then mostly forgotten about. It took forever to get our drinks, which were $3.50 for basic fountain sodas...ridiculously overpriced! They got my mom’s drink wrong, and instead of making a fresh one, they just dumped it out and reused the same cup. That’s a clear health code violation.
The chips were old and stale, the salsa tasted off, and the food was dry, overcooked, and clearly microwaved. The beans were watery and bland, worse than any homemade version I’ve ever had. Honestly, everything tasted like it was made from leftover scraps from earlier in the week.
There were flies buzzing around our table the whole time, which made eating really uncomfortable. Honestly, the whole experience felt like we were sitting on the set of Kitchen Nightmares, just waiting for Gordon Ramsay to walk in, yell at the kitchen, and shut it down.
And don’t even get me started on the prices. They’ve gone up about 15% since they opened. It feels like they’re just taking advantage of the popularity while cutting corners on food and cleanliness.
