MJ's Grill — Restaurant in South Carolina

I never leave reviews because I understand the impact it can have after one bad experience at a restaurant considering an off night but I am compelled to leave this after tonight. This restaurant has decent food, but about 6 months ago I visited this spot with friends for a few drinks, which was not our first dining experience, and we were immediately greeted at the bar with a patron that was obviously obliterated (at noon)and was using vulgar language toward myself and the women I was with while flipping me off and other customers picking up to go orders. When we confronted the bartender( D Kandi) she acted as if it was normal and we were in the wrong. Manager was called and no show.... Fast forward to this evening. Gave them another chance. Same bartender!! Attitude was no different. Ordered the fish and bourbon on the rocks. Fish was undercooked which I did not finish and just accepted it. Got my tab which was completely wrong and apparently you are charged a double shot automatically when you order a straight bourbon on the rocks which is not even an ounce pour. Watched the same bartender show my food to the cook/manager and no solution. I do not care about spending money for good food/service and always respect food industry and do my best to support them (especially during these times for small business owners and will always try and support those local businesses) but I be damn if I will be disrespected when all I try to do is visit your establishment and help you succeed. So, I think you may want to take a look at your team and make changes as necessary to find out who has your best interest, because you are chasing away your good customers when it is those that are trying to help you...

Normally, we go during the week and the food and drinks are delicious. However, I do not recommend coming here on a Sunday. We just went (8/6/23), and first, the drinks we ordered were simple beers, except one needed a lime. We were told the bartender didn’t have any limes cut up and we weren’t going to get any. Second, I ordered the simple burger, the rookie, asked for no onion or tomatoes. When it showed up, it looked like a dried piece of leather (I have never had this dry of a burger), tons of lettuce, barely any mayo, and a tomato. They completely forgot the pickles and I had asked for no tomatoes. And lastly, the fries. I like a little salt on my fries, as I have to be a little careful with salt for medical reasons. Most places don’t put a lot of salt on their food, and they allow the patron to add salt if needed. These fries had so much salt on them I could only eat two. It felt like I was eating a salt lick! I recommend MJ’s during the week, but they need to get it together, at least with a decent cook, on the weekends. I know people don’t like working the weekends, but for $45, I expected a little better food than what we received. I will never go there again...

I'm giving this place 5 stars for several reasons. This was a last minute stop for my wife and I meeting my daughters family. We drove from Greenville and they were heading back to Hilton Head from Charlotte. We picked this place. We got lucky. The place is really a cute place. It's super clean and has a real comfort feel to it. If I was a local, I would be a regular. The food was excellent and really reasonably priced. I ordered the salmon meal (perfectly cooked and well seasoned) my daughter had it also. The grandkids (3 of them) had burgers and Mac & cheese. My wife had the Asian wrap (I tried it, it was delicious) and my son in-law had a double order of chili dogs. He's 6'4" and is an athlete. My daughter had a Mamosa flight (4 generous glasses) and I had 2 glasses of wine. Merlot, it was decent, like Biltmore. My son in-law had a beer. My bill for everything but the 2nd order of Chili dogs was $113 and I gave our waitress a $30 tip because she was really nice and very professional. If you live near this place and don't eat here, you're asleep at the wheel. If you're on the road and near here, great place to stop. Very safe area with plenty of gas...
