Based on prior reviews, we decided to give this new place a try (we live in Oldfield..we ordered take-out). Overall, my family and I are very happy with the taste and quality of our meals and we'll order from here again.
Some observations...
The new owner put a nice face lift on the place and it was very clean. The staff were all in the same uniform (same shirts) and I noticed a lot of attention being give to our order. You can tell they are working hard and doing their best to put out a great product and please the customer. We don't always see this kind of service in other local places.
My daughter got the pulled pork plate and she was happy with the serving sizes and we both liked the mac and cheese which had a mild kick to it. I was expecting plain old mac and cheese but this dish had a personal touch. We also both ordered the baked beans and we're happy with that side also.
My wife had the pulled pork sandwich plate and she gave it a nice thumbs up when I asked her what she thought.
I had the fried chicken plate and I liked very much the taste of the chicken. The only constructive feedback I would give on the fried chicken is that the serving size was too small given the price. I had two full wings (drum + flat each) and a mid-size chicken breast for $12 (plus the two sides). To be worth $12, either increase the breast to a large piece or add a drum stick. Otherwise, I think this should be priced at around $10.
Other feedback for the owner...
Add a piece of cornbread to each meal/plate.
Lose the $1.50 convenience fee. I don't know what that is and no one likes a surprise.
With take-out, you most times don't sell drinks which are a high-margin item. Come up with a family size jug of sweet tea or lemonade and any orders above a certain dollar offer a discount on the jug size drink.
In summary...I encourage everyone to support this new and hardworking entrepreneur who picked a really tough time to open. I'm confident, with time, they'll get their pricing model just right but, for now, I'm ok with it being a little on the high side for, again, times are tough. The service, taste and quality of the food...
Read moreWe visited Cherry Point Chicken & BBQ on a Wednesday mid afternoon. At that time of the day, the restaurant was not crowded and so it was very easy to find a table either inside or outside.
Upon entering the restaurant, we approached an order counter with a menu board on the wall behind it. My son ordered the daily special, a fried pork chop sandwich with pickled onions that he said was fantastic. I'll have to take his word for it because he did not share any of it with me. My granddaughter and wife ordered the pulled pork. I thought I had ordered pulled chicken, but I ended up receiving pulled pork instead. The server apologized and offered to switch my order, but I declined since I like pulled pork too. The server brought a sample of pulled chicken to the table for me to try since that was what I intended to get. I liked the way that the staff at the restaurant tried to make things right for their customers even though it very well could have been me who made the mistake when ordering.
I really liked the pulled pork. Both the pork and the chicken were pulled perfectly and seasoned with a hint of pepper. The house BBQ sauce complimented their meats very well.
As for our sides, I ordered a baked potato salad and collard greens. The potato salad was rich and creamy and the collards were tasty with that earthy flavor that I love. Everybody else got baked beans and enjoyed them, and my wife ordered some fries that she liked as well. We also ordered some hush puppies to enjoy with our meals which were quite good, savory with a hint of sweetness.
I definitely would like to return soon to try their fried chicken since I'm always looking for a good fried chicken place and, after all, chicken is in Cherry Point's name. But my first visit here was enjoyable, the food was tasty, and the staff was friendly. It was a very...
Read moreThis place should be way more crowded than it was on a Friday night! A real gem. The counter and kitchen staff are beyond pleasant. They went above and beyond to make we as customers were satisfied.
We ordered: Beer: 𤯠they offered a chilled pint glass! How fancy for a road side place with picnic tables. Very nice touch!
Hush puppies: 5/5 OUTSTANDING! We got a second order because the kids woofed down the first order. They perfectly balanced blend of sweet and fried. The Alabama dipping sauce is so good that you should hold onto it to use with your fries too!
Chicken sandwich: 5/5 the flavor was excellent with a little kick and it was cooked to perfection. Definitely recommend for future visits.
Pulled pork: 3.8/5 Good, not great. Portion a little tiny for the price of the platter. If you didn't taste their chicken sandwich or fried chicken you might rank their pulled pork higher but relative to the other food we ordered we rank this as good.
Fried chicken: 4.8/5! The flavor was very good and different than that of the chicken sandwich. One of the pieces was a little well done but overall cooked nicely and VERY tasty.
Sides: Mac n cheese: 5/5! It was GOOD! Creamy and perfect portion as a side. Had a small hint of pepper but not overpowering.
Fries: Standard. We ordered the "box" of fries and the portion was perfect for our family of 5.
Coleslaw: Good for a vinegar based coleslaw. Nothing to rave about but as a coleslaw lover, would...
