Normally something like this would be looked over, but as a local this bothered me personally.
For perspective, we live very close to this restaurant and contribute financially to this local business weekly.
Today, my wife placed our weekly order to the Clock on Cedar Lane in the Berea community. We order from this also local âmom and popâ non Corprate restaurant to support our community and local business.
My wife was working overtime at work and called in to place our order to save some time this evening. She placed the same order we order every week. Exactly the same items. To save time as she was commuting from work I offered to go pay and pick it up for her. I arrived, paid and took our food. I did not check it because our order is always the same items and always correct. An employee asked out loud, wondering why they were âdeadâ and not busy. The time was 5:34 pm.
I arrived home to my wife with our order and she opened it to prepare it on plates to serve us. Upon opening we noticed one of the items was incorrect. She had ordered a side that she always ordered, chili cheese fries. Tonight we had received chili cheese tater tots. She does not like tater tots so I offered to take it back. She called the Clock on Cedar Lane to let them know of the mistake and ask if we could bring the tater tots back and receive a replacement of the correct item, fries.
An employee answered the phone, and handed the phone over to the owner. She informed her of the mistake and was greeted with a very rude response.
My wife offered to pay a difference and the owner said that wasnât the problem. The problem was that she was replacing a $5 item (that we paid for already) with another $5 item. So it was a âwaste of $10â as she said. She was not helpful and made my wife feel as if she was the one who made the mistake.
I do not expect anyone to memorize our order as a âregularâ however, reading the order back before hanging up would have been helpful in this case. Good customer service would have been to replace the mistake with no problem. Instead she was told to âyeah ok just bring it back thenâ with a very loud sigh.
With all that said, a weekly order of 25$, one would assume that one mistake of tater tots instead of fries would be an easy fix for a regular customer. It wasnât.
Unfortunately, after this experience on the simplest of issues such as customer service, we will not be returning to this establishment. Iâm sorry to say we will no longer support this local business. I hope no other customers are greeted with this poor example of service, especially if they are also a local supporter of their community. Best of luck in this industry. Rule of thumb - be kind to your customers. Especially loyal ones.
Here is a picture of the 5$ worth of an order. 12 total tater tots.
We will both also be sharing this experience on social media to...

And the gentlemen who took our order was spot on he listened and got everything correct first go and so nice!!! Took the drive through and everything was right!!! They got our rather large order completely correct!!!
Service was excellent. Now we didn't order fried chicken they had some extra and we got a good plate as a bonus. And now I regret not getting the fried chicken! The chili cheeseburger was excellent greasy good cheesy and delicious!!! Truly a greasy spoon that scratches the southern home cooking itch. The steak fingers were perfect. But the fried chicken, crispy with extra crunchy bits, juicy and lots of flavor!!!
Everyone has finished their plate and my dad loved the Coleslaw!!!! We are local and have been to almost all the clocks. But this one we will be...
