8/8/21: My mom and I have wanted to try this restaurant out for a while now, and I'm so glad we did! We called ahead and ordered the Jayd Fusion, Chicken Pan Fried Buns, and Wonton Noodles Soup around 5 P.M. Everything was absolutely delicious.
The Jayd Fusion is a scallion pancake with an amazing (but spicy) sauce. The flavor is incredible. Although they pack a punch, they might have been my favorite dish of the night. The Chicken Pan Fried Buns were also delicious with a crispy exterior around a bread-like bun. The texture was amazing and not soggy like other dumplings.
Lastly, the Wonton Noodles Soup was great! The wontons are perfect, with an amazing filling. They are great in combination with the thick noodles, bok choy, and egg. I loved that there was a generous amount of cilantro-- it gives the broth such an amazing flavor!
As of August 2021, there is a window where you pick up your order. The staff was very friendly. Someone in the kitchen even stopped by the window to say hello! I would definitely come here again for the fresh food and great service. I would post pictures, but we gobbled all the food right up! Jayd Bun is a local treasure!
10/1/21: My mom and I decided to go to Jayd Bun again for some October noodles and wonton noodle soup. I'm so glad we did! The pickup tonight was quick and the food was fresh (Joe was finishing the October noodles when I arrived). Both dishes were amazing and flavorful! Once again, no pictures as we ate all of the food.
The October Noodle is a mildly spicy noodle with minced pork and scallions. Boy is it delicious! The noodles were silky smooth and delicious I may have found my new favorite dish, but then again, I love everything at Jayd Bun! My mom had the wonton noodles soup and loved it. I have had it before and it is extremely flavorful with tender wontons and smooth noodles. Great texture and flavor! We're very happy our favorite restaurant is back. We really missed you! We can't wait until October 12 when Chef Annie is back! Congratulations!
10/14/21: We couldn't even wait two weeks before coming back to Jayd Bun! We were so happy that Chef Annie is back! I called early and picked up around 5:30. Joe and Jeremy were just finishing my Yo Po Noodles!
Today we branched out and tried the Veggie Buns, Jayd Noodle, and Spicy Yo Po Noodle. We also got some of our favorites like the Jayd Fusion, and the Peanut Butter Noodles.
The Veggie Buns were extremely delicious! They had just the right veggie-to-bun ratio. I loved the Spicy Yo Po Noodle. The blend of spices paired with the egg and bok choy was amazing. Filling too! It was kind of spicy, but it was so good! The Jayd Noodle was great as well. It was a chilled noddle dish with crispy scallions and okra (which I had never tried before). I loved this dish too! It was tasty and I loved the sauce with the noodles. The okra, scallions, and carrot gave it a nice crunch.
It was so lovely to talk to Joe, Annie, and Jeremy. See...
Read morePreviously I had the peanutbutter noodles adding some sweet and chilli sauce which added more kick to it. The ground pork and pickled Napa in the "October" noodles reminded me of my simple childhood dish my mom used to make which only contained two simple ingredients: mustard greens and ground pork with whatever sauce she put in. Veggie buns were a real treat. It felt like moo shu styled vegetables in a bun which resembled instead of using a pancake. Plenty of flavor and not too saucy while still being slick. It was incredible because at first I had thought it would resemble somewhat of a spring roll in a bun.

Tomato egg soup was light not in a bad way more like very smooth and soothing different than my mom's homeade cantonese plain tomato soup but still great! The Jayd Fusion scallion pancakes were a treat! Slightly different than my family's and how other restaurants make. No, it is not "just" a scallion pancake like any other even with the sauce. Tried a little bit of the Jayd Noodle which I am saving for tomorrow's dinner which I never had okra before. Interesting 🤔 but a good combo. Had chicken buns today along with the soup. Yes, it is super good but no restaurant can ever beat pork buns! Because pork is more tender in buns anyways with all that juicy goodness. They sell YeShu coconut drink which I never had and if you're not a fan of coconut it is very light almost like a very light soy milk. Only 10% juice and rest with water. I recommend to pair it with the tomato soup! Sounds odd doesn't it? You'll just have to wait and see for yourself. I certainly would love to go more often if I could. Highly deserved five stars or even 10! Drove an hour and ten minutes for the first time since I live a state nearby by. From ordering to pickup, the enthusiasm you cannot really find anywhere else. Definitely a lot of time and energy had put into these homeade dishes. I ordered the Chinese style pancake which is similar to jiangbing which I always had wanted to try but I enjoyed this so much, Spicy Yo Po, pork bun combo with wonton soup, and the rolling donkey (Friday + Saturday) dessert. Everything was still pretty warm at the right cooling temperature but had to eat quick :). The dessert was perfectly sweetened from the red bean paste which is normal to be sweetened along with the glutinous dough. Worth the drive! Because of the pandemic I drive to Rhode Island to try something new or a different style to force myself out and to drive to this beautiful state. Great quality and portions! They also make sure you are taken care of. Love when the culture and history is preserved and shared. The food really is to die for! Young owners and saw they opened in 2019 apparently. Fantastic experience at...
Read moreIt can be daunting to go somewhere where the bar is set so high. Major honors and top tier in the country? All of peers in the industry raving about it? Man that’s a high bar….and let me tell you: they not only reached the bar but they cleared it like a champ.
First off, the bao: second to none. I’ve been to Southy and gotten the dim sum and bao everyone raved about it and it was amazing, but these are the best bao I’ve ever had. I don’t like to compare to others and put others down but let me tell you I don’t need to drive to Boston or NY to get the best bao I can get them here.
Second; the noods. Amazing. I think it’s important to set expectations especially when you have a place with as much recognition as Jaydbun. They are not trying to be a Michelin star fancy restaurant. They’re cooking food they love and eat at their home, with love to serve to you. What makes this food amazing is that everything is fresh, there’s nice depth to the flavors without trying to get fancy or adding crazy expensive ingredients just because they can. The beauty is the balance of complex flavors with simple dishes. The character of the owners, the vibe, the fact their whole family is involved is just as much of an ingredient as anything else. IMO it’s the secret ingredient, it can’t be faked and it’s what makes them great.
As far as ordering, we’re in the business so we understand it more. But honestly people who get mad at waiting when a place is recognized as #2 in the country and viewed by millions of people are just stupid. All you need to do is plan your day. If you go there and order you’re going to wait. They are very clear about that in all their marketing. We wanted to eat around 7pm. We knew that means we’d have to order by 4 ish, we got held up so we called around 5, they told us 7:30. We got there at 7:30 waited less than a few mins, talked with owners and got our food. Nothing confusing about it at all. If there’s nobody at the door when you walk in, just wait. There will be. They know what they are doing. It amazes me people will wait overnight for an iphone making a corporation richer but can’t think to order ahead from a family run establishment with community roots that serves up some of the best food in the country?!
If you’re looking for amazing food cooked with love, and very unique to the area: plan ahead and get here now. Trust me you...
