There was a lot of very basic stuff that this restaurant didn't get right at all.
In short: this trip was disappointing, and for such a great location I'd hope for equally great food that highlighted the local seafood and produce. What we got was an overpriced and vastly underwhelming meal.
For apps, we got the lobster poutine and the "blue calamari". The lobster part of the lobster poutine was very few and far between pretty sure there were more bacon bits than lobster pieces, which for the price was incredibly dishonest. The Blue Calamari, though original, was lackluster. The calamari needed a kick of acid to cut through the fattiness and make it not feel like a pile of breading and grease. The gorgonzola sauce didn't do that, it just made the problem worsew, it wasn't dippable or distributed so it ended up being that some calamari were unflavored and some were drenched.
The seafood pizza was also lacking. The crust was simultaneously overcooked and soggy, cheese wasn't flavorful, the seafood part was overshadowed by the other flavors, not in a good way.
We got the Fish and Chips as well. Like the calamari, this plate, specifically the coleslaw, needed acid (far more than the lemon or malt vinegar provided, seriously it's your job to properly season the food, not for me to splash acid on top to salvage it). Fries were also soggy, and the breading was too dense for how thin the fish was. Tartar sauce was way too sweet.
The Caesar Salad, unsurprisingly, also needed acid. Decent otherwise.
Burrata and tomato salad: burrata should be room temp when served, otherwise you lose the benefits of the flavor of the cheese, which is the whole point of the dish... The tomatoes were cold and mealy, underripe. Tomatoes, like cheese should be room temp for best flavor.
Pina Colada was very watery, or I guess icy, either way, very little coconut or pineapple flavor, especially bad given the price of $14.
A few positives: Seared scallops that we got as a side on a salad were were act very well done. Clam chowder was good, not great, not poor. Sushi was also done well, although we found it an odd addition to the menu.
Service was also poor. I understand having difficult night and difficult customers, but our server was unattentive and unengaging, very obviously very uninterested in her job. Despite how my review may make it seem, my group was not nitpicky or annoying.
Kinda makes me think we came the wrong day or week. I mean, if we had come a week earlier, the restaurant would have been closed for food safety violations and we would have been spared...
Read moreMargie and I decided to try a new spot in Rhode Island for some seafood. We invited a friend who was to busy to join us, she was lucky she didn't make it. I called Two Ten Oyster Bar to see if they took reservations. I spoke to a very nice young lady, who very pleasantly took our reservation for 2 people at 4:00 PM. We arrived a little early and this young lady named Savanah welcomed us, seated us and was our waitress as well. Margie went for an appetizer of Clams Casino and I ordered a Stuffed Quohog. They arrived promptly and both were delicious. Margie was so impressed with the Clams Casino that she ordered a second order and I ordered a dozen Oysters and 6 Little Neck Clams from the Raw Bar. This second round of appetizers took a little bit too long to arrive, probably because they over cooked the Clams Casino, to the point where they were almost inedible. My Oysters and Clams were perfect. We then ordered the main course Margie had Fried Whole Belly Clams and I went for the Steamed Lobster. They took a while and we knew almost instantly why. The clams were over cooked to the point that they were almost unrecognizable. My (steamed) lobster was black because it had been left on a grill for way too long. The meat was crispy, not the sweet succulent lobster you get from a properly cooked lobster. We sent both dinners back after jokingly asking Savanah if the cook was either new or drunk. She laughed and told us that she would take care of it immediately. We waited for a long time and the dinners finally arrived. The clams were under cooked, but edible. The lobster was warm on the inside but almost cool to the touch on the shell. I believe it was reheated. The lobster meat was tough. Savanah knew we were not happy and did her best by offering us a dessert on the house. We decided to try a piece of Key Lime Pie, yet another mistake. It was way too sweet, not tart at all. Probably purchased from a purveyor. All in all Savanah, our waitress was the best part of our dining experience. She was a happy and caring person, just like I would recommend to any restaurant owner to be a trainer or supervisor. Anyone can have a bad night, with this in mind, I might be tempted to go back. But this place has nothing on the Seahorse in Noank and the Seahorse is a heck of...
Read moreI never write reviews. But this poor rating is represented by the service and encountered staff members who I must say were very unfriendly, any "smiles" appeared very forced and fake. Came here for dinner on our last night in Rhode Island. My boyfriend and I were in Rhode Island for the weekend on a short get away as I only had a couple days off due to being an accelerated nursing student. Unfortunately, the day prior to coming here I lost my physical license on the cliff walk in Newport, it fell out of my pocket. Our server was Luke. I made him aware of this upon being carded when ordering drinks and his entire expression changed. He became very smug and rude in both mine and my boyfriend’s opinion. I had photos of my ID, numerous credit cards to verify against the picture of my ID on my phone, confirmation from the DMV on a new ID being mailed to me, all of which I offered him, he still denied service and didn’t exhibit signs of genuine listening to what I was saying, he would speak right over me; he acted in quite a patronizing manner. I felt very uncomfortable. Never did he offer to bring management over. Prior to entering the field of nursing, I worked in customer service and was a waitress myself, I’m familiar with the restaurant business. My boyfriend said we would not be eating dinner here due to this interaction and I couldn't agree more (we ended up getting take out pizza and watched a movie, way better!). We ate our already ordered appetizer (oysters) once they were brought to the table, paid, and left. This took place on the weekend of May 9th. I’m writing this review now considering it’s been announced just a few days ago that in Apple iphone’s wallet, there is a digital option for you to put your license/ ID into! Made me remember this experience that took place a month ago. Staff was not genuinely welcoming and did not display good customer service and I wouldn’t recommend getting your hopes up for a nice night out or nice dinner if you’re planning on coming here. It was beautiful scenery, oysters were great, but...
