I've been going to the Dutch Treat since I was a kid (1980s). Heck, I love the place so much I had my wedding rehearsal dinner there (1991). I'll admit they had some rough patches over the past two years. The pandemic hit every restaurant hard. But I am here to tell you THEY ARE BACK and THEY ARE BETTER THAN EVER! Two weeks ago I stopped in for a small breakfast--it was delish. Today I ordered breakfast to go. One of their brand new menu items (did I mention they changed up their menu?) is Eggs a la Goldenrod. OH MY GOSH. This was SO good! First, I have to say that I was barely able to drive because the aroma of the meal in my car was so intoxicating, I probably would have failed a sobriety test. I couldn't wait to get to work so I could eat (yes, I ate at work...don't judge me...)! Anyway, the restaurant has a new general manager (and many improvements), awesome and friendly wait staff, and whoever is doing the cooking/baking is truly bringing life back to the Dutch Treat. If you haven't been there, make a point to go. And if you were there in the past couple of years and something disappointed you, try again now. Your senses and your tummy will be glad you did!

This is one of those restaurants where the whole time you're sitting there eating, you're thinking to yourself that this may be one of the best meals you've ever had. There are pieces of bacon in the already delicious potato salad like I've never seen anywhere else, the fish is of the caliber you get in an oceanside restaurant, and the reuben is served on marbled rye with juicy corned beef. A great big "wow" all around. There are also actual bits of lime in the key lime pie and the graham cracker pie was perfect from crust to cream. Can't wait to go back. You might want to buy a jar of the notorious one-of-a-kind Amish peanut butter in the gift store on the way out. Drive carefully, though, as this is serious Amish territory and there are, at times, slower moving horses and buggies in the main road.

Nothing particularly good...nothing horrible. Waitress was pleasant and thoughtful; food was mediocre. Liver was dry, mealy, overcooked and a tad bit bitter. Meatloaf was good, but not excellent. Neither was a particularly good advertisement for local Spartanburg raised beef as was touted on the menu. "Amish stuffing" obviously started in a box and the applesauce was commercially canned. Salad was iceberg lettuce, gravy not bad, but definitely lumpy and over dependent on salt for flavor. Cottage cheese was good and the serving was generous. Pie was pleasant but not stellar. The lemonade from a powdered mix. An ok meal if you don't have other choices

Friday Fish dinner is so good! You can get fried or baked and if you can eat the first piece they will give you another piece. I couldn't eat a second one because dinners come with the salad bar to! You also have to try the Amish Butter on their freshly baked rolls!! It's to die for. They also sell the butter in a small mason jar out in the store where you first come in and where you check out afterwards!

UPDATE: TODAY FEBRUARY 1, 2024 Today my family and I visited the new Mandy's Dutch Treat and we were really disappointed this time! Usually when you order a sandwich or a burger at a dine in restaurant the french fries are included plus a side at no extra cost but today my mom and I ordered a ham/bacon club and could ONLY get fries or applesauce or coleslaw or a cup of soup with it. If you want anything else it's an extra cost. So for $12 all you get is your sandwich and one of the side items I mentioned above. (fries, coleslaw, applesauce or a cup of soup). If you want the salad bar it's $6.00 extra or just the salad bar it's $12.00. We observed the salad bar and it's not worth the price for just lettuce, salad dressing, onions, tomatoes, olives, cheese and chopped up hard boiled eggs and dressing! There's usually some kind of pasta and fruits and cottage cheese and fresh rolls but nothing of that sort! My dad ordered a cheeseburger and a cup of soup since you can only get one side but instead of bringing the soup out with the burger it came out 10 minutes before and when his burger came out it was on a huge plate all by itself and NO condiments as ordered. My mom and I ordered american cheese on our sandwich and neither of us got any cheese and the lettuce was in huge chunks and wouldn't stay on the sandwich. The tomatoes were really hard and I had a whole slice of tomato on one of the quarter pieces of my sandwich which was sticking way out on the sides. We had to get up ourselves and go over to the counter to find ketchup and mustard for my dads cheeseburger because as I mentioned above it did not have any condiments on it. That wouldn't have been a big deal if we wouldn't have had to go searching for ketchup and mustard but could only find ketchup. My mom also ordered a cup of soup and the waitress told us that the soup she ordered was by the salad bar which was chicken and rice and the soup my dad ordered was in the back so ok no problem figured the waitress would bring both cups out with our food but when our food came out my moms soup did not. So she asked the waitress about it and she said Well you have to go up and get that yourself, it's right there. We apologized because we didn't know that my mom was supposed to go up and get it herself. We also had to go find extra napkins because the waitress disappeared after bringing us our food hence the whole condiment thing. The restaurant was completely empty besides the 3 of us so we should not have needed to get up for anything. The total bill came to $75 and we each only had one drink each and NO refills!! Yes really pricey now.. I know!! We won't be returning which makes me really sad because just 11 months ago my review was almost a 10/10 and we have been dining there...

I live out of state now, but my annual visit to western Pennsylvania is a jot up to Spartanburg to have their roast beef sandwich, homemade mashed potatoes, Cole slaw and pie. Well...where to begin. Yes, the mashed potatoes are still real, but nothing else was good. I did need to pay another $4.00 for the mashed potatoes though. The gravy was likely dumped out of a can and heated before dumping it across my plate. When it soaked into the white bread on the roast beef sandwich, it just made a gooey tasteless mess, my friend had stuffing. It was so bad they took the $4.00 off of her tab. The coleslaw was tasteless. I was glad there was salt and pepper on the table to season our meal. It was tasteless and blan. So depressing! I look forward to this meal everytime I come home and usually try to make the trip to Spartanburg from Meadville, before I fly out. Pies: I don't know who their vendors are, but I wish I could have seen the pies before I ordered a piece to go. Obviously they weren't homemade! Terrible! So another tradition bites the...
