The Ugly Mug Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Spencer

We went to Spencer, Tennessee over the Memorial Day weekend for a reunion and came across The Ugly Mug our first night. WOW!!, is all I can say, and I really wish we had a place like this in Miami. The vibe and atmosphere is like you are at your friend's house just hanging out and chilling. The owner told us about how he cleared the land and then reused the wood inside the bar. You have to go just to see that labor of love, it's so unique and a one of a kind place. Our first night we had the Wahoo wings, chicken quesadilla and the nachos, all were excellent! Everything was so perfect, that we came back the 3 other nights that we were in town. Why drive 30 to 40 minutes to Sparta and maybe not get a good meal? We knew that if we ate at The Ugly Mug we were going to get exceptional food and service in a relaxing place. In our visits we had, Wahoo wings (3 times), the Philly burger (2 times), shrimp tacos, creamy tomato soup wi/ grilled cheese, garlic parmesan wings, caesar salad, buffalo chicken sandwich, fried pickles, and the best thing that we ate had to have been the BEAST burger! Their french fries are also out of this world, I don't know what they are doing to them, but they are so crispy with a yummy sesoning. My daughter took one bite and she immediately said that this was the best burger she has ever had, and let me tell you, she eats burgers everywhere she goes. Their prices are very fair and their portions are also a good size for what you are paying for. I also think that they have live music on Saturdays. Just found one of our new favorite places! Might even just be THE favorite!

This place seriously wows with the decor, shout out to the owners for a stunning atmosphere. Everything was clean and well thought out. I seriously loved every single detail in this place from the gorgeous leather barstools to the tile in the bathroom. The porches are warmly lit and inviting, the one in the front has more tables for dining while the back was more to hangout and also had a nice stone fire pit. The waitress said they were going to be adding cornhole and some other things outside as well.

The food? Best french fries I've had in forever. Me and my husband sometimes just want some fries and a cold beer and this will be our go to for that now for sure. The wings were perfectly cooked and the Wahoo sauce was fantastic! My husband had a cuban and said it was better than the one he just had in Tampa. Three different Calfkiller's, Guiness and I believe 2 other beers on tap so good selection there.

Staff was incredibly friendly and inviting and the only reason I gave a 4 star there is that some aspects were SLIGHTLY slower in the service. But nothing that would ever prevent us from returning and having a great time, and we were in no rush!

Music selection that was playing was also perfect. Can't wait to see some of the live music artists play here.

I can't say enough about this place. Everything about it was incredible! The food was some of the best I've had in a restaurant. I live in the Keys, and was on a road trip with my 4 year old. This place was next to a playground, and had a fire pit outside. The staff was so kind, the bartenders made the best lemon drop martini I've ever had (I've been a bartender off and on for 15 years, so speaking from a lot of experience they knew what they were doing!) I went there every night (4 nights in a row) for dinner while visiting Spencer, TN! I talked about it non-stop to my husband who couldn't come with me on this trip, and said I'd drive back here just to be able to come here again! I had the wings, buffalo and parm garlic, the philly burger, the beast burger, the chicken sandwhich and fried pickles. My daughter loved the mac and cheese, chicken tenders & wings! The staff was so sweet, the owner was present and involved with the customers, I felt like I was at a friends house. The scenery was beautiful, the decor and design of the place was so cool and unique. Highly recommend! 10 out of 10 in...
