We have been coming here for a while now and it pains me to leave this review. The most important part about a good breakfast place to me starts with the coffee and Chaps has that nailed. Super good coffee. The area in which you get to add your cream and sugar has no room for putting your cup down and mixing in your perfect cup. The food is horrible inconsistent. Upon our last visit which made my wife and I decide not to come back this is what transpired; We finally got to the head of the line to place our order, the lady that helped us i guess is a manager. My wife ordered her breakfast, the breakfast wrap that we decided to share. She very clearly said to the lady taking our order ( heavier older white lady with some what curly dirty blonde hair that seems like she just hates her job ) , we could not have any of the red peppers on it. The lady started writing down to add red peppers to which my wife replied when she saw it to please cross that off because she could not eat them. The lady crossed it off but never wrote down to not have red peppers on it. SOOOOOOO when i ordered I told the lady that we were going to split it and that we wanting to make sure she understood that we could not have any red peppers on it, she replied that she understood and ensured us that there was going to be no mix up and that we didn't have to worry at all. WELL guess what, it came out with red peppers anyway and our breakfast was ruined. Not a great way to start our one day off together. I wish this was an isolated incident but this is just the norm at Chaps. By the way this happened after we left a very good tip by the way. Such a disappointment. I know good help is hard to find but it pains me that an employer would keep a person like this around. Chaps uses Ladder coffee from what I've heard if anyone wants the good coffee without the hassle and disappointment of unfriendly staff...
Read moreMy 7 and 5 year old and I decided on this place today for breakfast. It was more like brunch since it was almost 11. Very nice appearance from the outside with a gated patio area that you walk through to get in. There wasn't a wait when we got there and we were instructed to grab a menu, walk to the roped out front area to order and he directed us to a specific table that was numbered. We sat down first to look at the menu together and he told us they had kids pancakes we could order. We walked up and decided to get a couple cookies and a small pastry. We ordered two kids pancakes and I got biscuits and gravy with a 20oz Latte. The total order was $34. The food didn't take long to come out and the kids pancakes came in mickey mouse shape. My biscuits and gravy were amazing and the hashbrowns that accompanied it were cut like fettuccine noodles. The biscuits weren't too dense and the gravy was light as well, not too thick or greasy like some become. The hashbrowns were seriously the best I've ever had, perfectly cooked. Most hasbrowns come out crispy and somewhat burnt. The kids loved the pancakes. I tasted them without butter or syrup and it wasn't bad. The batter they use was a pretty typical pancake, after all you can't really screw up pancakes. The kids loved the interior of the place. Antique but wooden cabin accents sprinkled throughout mixed with a higher end atmosphere.
For a place with coffee in the name, I did expect more from the coffee and pastries. The cookies were really hard, the kind that make a huge mess as you eat it because it is breaking apart. The coffee was way more cream than coffee and didn't even have much hazelnut flavor at all for a Hazelnut Latte. Food was good, but coffee and pastries...
Read moreOne of the greats in Spokane! So worth the short drive down 195 if you’re in downtown. By worth it, I mean come for the five star hotel quality food in a relaxing, community style laid back environment. It’s stand in line to order and get your own coffee, but that’s the extent of self service. They will bring your drinks, your food and keep your water topped off always! It’s a busy place whenever it’s open! Oh, did I mention they have a full bar, wine, and six or seven taps (notably at the moment on tap is Elysian Space Dust & No-Li Born and Raised amongst other great beers)? Also they are actually a bakery and have a some of the best pastries around! Does it better? Yes. Regularly have a band on weekend. Fun at night. Outdoor seating with lots of shade. Sandbox for the kids. Easy parking. Maybe the coolest part is the whole place is a rotating shabby chic decor. Why does it rotate you ask? Because most of it is for sale. Find the owner and make an offer! I’ve seen her barter deals on the spot. Beyond all this, the owner is actually an RN who followed her dreams and made this place a reality. She’s a great person who’s touched many lives and continues to build a legacy. I’ve been coming here for years and it’s only just gotten better as the years have progressed. I feel like I’m on vacation, and that’s quite a feat to pull off for a regular Sunday morning. Chaps has pulled off an amazing environment, centering around phenomenal food. There is a glow of life that emanates from the soul of this restaurant. Outside with a band is the best! It’s definitely an experience to be had, and gladly...
