This place is a gem of a find. Deep South BBQ was a stop on our way back from Crystal River to Disney. The previous reviews sold us on why we needed to stop here and as expected it blew us away. As folks from the UK we do not have places like this back home so we wanted to try what Florida had to offer when it came to BBQ.
A small rustic wooden building gave a great true florida feel, just off the highway, the minute you open the car door you can smell the BBQ. It has the small local feel and we followed two lae enforcement gentlemen in, when those boys go to the place you know its tasty. And they didnt go just for the donuts. They told us its one of their favourite places to eat. High praise.
From walking in the service was first class. Advised how and where to order straight away, friendly staff who could not do enough. A friendly welcome that was followed up throughout our visit.
We ordered the famous Brisket in a sandwich with 2 sides (Sandwich Platter) and a pulled Pork sandwich, as well as kids chicken tenders meal which came with fries and a drink.
A short 10 minute wait and our food was with us piping hot and beautifully cooked.
The brisket comes in 3 types depending on your liking, meatier, fattier or inbetween. I went for inbetween. It came in a potatoe bun packed with 1/4 of the best brisket I have ever had. If I could give 6 stars I would. Hell if I could give it 10, I would still give it 11.
The BBQ pulled pork, again served with a potatoe bun was also amazing. Succulent, tender and tasty as hell. Again 1/4lb of meat. Amazing. Again this gets the full stars and would give it more if I could.
The fries were crunkle cut, propper chips as we call them in the UK. The coulsaw side was home made and fresh too.
The kids meal was as expected, a kids meal of chicken tenders and fries. But our lad eat the lot, first time he has done that while he has been here. So a hit with him.
Overall great value for money and the best food we have had on our trip so far. We loved the feel of the place and the friendly staff and locals and it was defo the beat place to stop off.
Highly recommend. Deep South Family BBQ, never change, because you are doing it all right. If we come back to Florida we will again be making a...
Read more30 minutes ago, My husband walked in and ordered two meals To Go. One Fatty Brisket and Pulled Chicken Platter with Cole Slaw & Fries, and a Pulled Pork Sandwich with Cole Slaw & Fries, plus an order of Fried Biscuits. We’ve been to this restaurant several times for dine-in, with no problems except for that fact that they often run out of meat during dinner rush. Tonight, not only did he wait forever for a small order, but Carly, who was working there and who played Manager tonight” straight up lied to my husband about the Brisket. There was zero fat, and it was dry as a bone, like beef jerky, and completely inedible. Also, the Cole Slaw was warm and rotten and the fries were over cooked and cold. When I called to get an explanation, she admitted to lying. She was extremely nasty to me and very snappy. She told me “Sorry that’s all we have”, like I should be grateful for wasting $40 on old nasty food because they didn’t plan ahead. She then called me a Bi%ch for complaining, and yelled at me, telling me to “Never, ever come back to HER Restaurant”. My husband also called to complain about his meal, and told them that we could have gotten food poisoning from the fermented Cole Slaw. This was right after she hung up on me. She is extremely combative and entitled. We had to throw our food away and go pay for a replacement dinner elsewhere. Needless to say, I’ve never been spoken to like that from a place of business, and this behavior was totally unacceptable. My Husband also says there was another customer upset and complaining about them running out of meat as well. This was at 5pm! We will NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN, and we will be putting out the word to let people know to stay away from this restaurant! We are also reporting this to the Better Business Bureau and meeting with the Health Department....
Read moreI’ve been looking for good bbq place and you guys definitely did not disappoint. I knew when pulling up it was going to be good when I could smell the smoke. Has that “hole in the wall” country feel, which in my opinion always is the best!!
Tried the 3 meat dinner meal. Brisket, pulled pork, and sausage w/ japs and onion. Also comes with 2 small sides which I chose Mac and baked beans. Meat was very tender, juicy and just the right amount of smoke. Beans were very good, nice mix of different beans packing some serious flavor. Mac was your typical picnic bbq mac & cheese. Of course had to top everything off with a banana pudding. Dessert is good, fills in the cracks.
From someone who’s worked in industrial kitchens for 20 years and better yet bbq pits for roughly 5 years, this place slaps. Whoever is in charge of the meats most definitely knows what they’re doing! Thank you for smoking some delicious meats for a fantastic pre-memorial day feast.
Also would like to note the customer service in the FOH is very casual, but beyond friendly and efficient for bbq. The young lady at the window to order was great with suggesting options and was extremely helpful. It’s nice to walk in to a place and be greeted with a big smile and positive attitude while ordering and when you bring the food to the table.
Great staff, great food, casual comfortable dining area w/ options for outdoor seating as well. Overall a great place for some good bbq. Definitely will be returning...
