Kelly's Inn — Restaurant in Springettsbury Township

I drive 1.5 hours to eat here. I have had some crabs that were less than great, and have even had some differences with the help. BUT, all and all, one of the best crab houses around. I like the fact that its not an (all you can eat). I suggest you get there later in the evening. you wont get the reheats. My wife and I like the larger crabs and usually get a great product. As with any seafood, especially crabs, your quality will vary. I have noticed, along with other people's opinion, the size of crabs depends on your relationship with the help. I have ordered a dozen of jumbos and was brought out on a tray seeming very appropriate. Then while eating, I have seen people in the table beside us order the same thing and the server needed a wheel barrow to bring them out in. When questioned, You will get the proverbial, "They are measured by weight and point to point". Come on guys ...My momma raised a drunk...not an idiot...I was eating crabs when you were just a twinkle in your momma eye. But having said all this, It is really a great place to eat, nothing is perfect.. The serving girls are a little cold considering the cost of a meal and a good generous tip. The treatment has been so cold sometimes my wife had to get a jacket. Its like a lot of places, Its good to know the help. I will continue to dine here and I have many great experiences here. The soups and other sides that go with crabs, ie shrimp, mussels, oysters are all to die for. I mean really, really good. The atmosphere music and décor is wonderful. Extremely clean!! Our experience at Kelly's inn was completely unbelievably horrible!! It started when we were told to go to the bar side because the restaurant side was by reservation only at 530 pm on a Friday! Go into the bar side, my wife myself and our 20 yr old son! Get seated at a booth then we are asked how old our son is and then was told to leave! A very lovely lady came out and told us oh no go inside and sit she worked there It's perfectly fine! Order drinks and appetizers and our meals! This was a highly recommended place for my wife's 53rd birthday dinner!! Got our drinks then our appetizers. My soup Maryland crab was luke warm at best and veggies were not cooked! Our son's and my burgers were good. Wife got steak and stuffed shrimp which was good! Our son ordered a mountain dew for his drink. When he asked for a refill he was given a warm can!! Asked for another refill he was given another warm can of soda and needed another glass of ice!! All told an $80 meal!!! A highly recommended restaurant!! I'm sorry if I sound ungrateful! But please for that price we will be eating at 1 or 2 other well known completely satisfying seafood restaurants that we've had unbelievably great meals at and didn't spend $80 for a nothing to brag about meal!! We tried this place tonight for our weekly treat to dinner out at a restaurant. When we pulled up, wasn't sure where to enter at for the restaurant side(no sign, bartender had to tell us) we sat down and waitress was with us pretty quickly. I will say that she was very good at bringing us our food and being friendly and checking on us. The prices were pretty reasonable. Our soups(cream of broccoli and Maryland crab were good) but our entrees( 10oz ribeye and soft shell crab sandwich) were a different story. My steak had too much charr from the grill, one part was dried out, and one sliver was VERY RARE, bordering raw. Broccoli had a weird taste to it as well. But baked potato was good. My gf crab sandwich was okay, said it was kind of bland, however fries were good. She also had a orange crush mixed drink, couldn't really taste alcohol in it. I dont try to bash places, i just give my honest feeback on my experience, that way people can check out more localplaces. Wasn't busy at all on restaurant side, bar was half full.
