Making an educated guess, but I imagine this place is not doing so great. Prior to the pandemic their prices were decent—maybe slightly elevated compared to the rest of the area. But as of late, The Bagel House is rapidly and dramatically altering their prices and it's making it difficult to support them.
When a simple bacon+egg+cheese cost more than working over a hour of this state's minimum wage is huge issue. Not talking about a full breakfast plate, like just a egg sandwhich. To complete your breakfast with a coffee, harsh brown, or a water is going to push your quick breakfast over $20, easily. As others pointed out, it's not a bad sandwich but it really isn't anything to preach about. Good bagel, single slice of processed American cheese, and one wimpy slice of porkroll or low quality bacon is disappointing. At that point you are better off getting a quick meal at Fairlane across the street. Listen TBH, the neighborhood wants to support you but price/quality is just not approachable.
The Bagel House also seems to be consistently hiring or looking for additional help, so I imagine they have a difficult time keeping employees on staff (due to low salary). There is no labor shortage, just employers not willing to provide living wages to staff members. Speaking of staff, I will say the folks I have interacted with at TBH are always friendly, which is why I am going into this much detail. I want them to succeed.
LISTEN BAGLE PEOPLE!
• Reevaluate your prices to meet breakfast standards • Make a simple website with accurate prices • Work towards making better quality foods and not depend on super processed meats and cheeses • Actually attempt to market yourself in the area (Attend local festivals, take your foodtruck out on the road) • Spend time building up loyalty---give the newbie customer a bonus bagel or something to leave them with a good...
Read moreI love honesty, being a New Yorker, that’s my motto. Being in Philly from Easton, Pa doing my hair for 4hrs I needed something quick but reasonably convenient since was driving back home. I called in for order, let them know I was new to store, placing order was so easy, even though I couldn’t get the bagel I preferred but that’s not deal breaker. Place was easy to find, cute location with parking..SO CONVENIENT. Whomever the nice man was at register, seemed like the owner, felt some welcoming. Asked questions and I enjoyed sharing where I was from and why I was in area. I ordered plain bagel with Boars head turkey (AWESOME), Swiss/bacon, lettuce/tomato, toasted. It was pretty, wish the meat and everything was heated so it can stay in sandwich, it all came out, wish I took photo but again, it’s doable, not a deal breaker. Pricing for myself was a bit pricey but “you pay for quality and quantity”. You probably pay less at Panera bread but it’s not boars head. I would return anytime, but just express if would like your meat heated so they don’t come apart, and the bagels are pretty small but honestly with the amount of meat and bacon I was given, NO...
