Went to Dennys here in St. George, S. Carolina on 12/4/21 nice place except for the hostess. Pretty busy for two waitresses to handle alone. Gotta pack your patience. We waited in line about 15 minutes. They’re doing everything. Seating, serving, register, etc. Right after Dan and I got seated this woman comes out from the back room barking orders at our waitress about milkshakes. Our waitress told her she never took an order for milkshakes and the woman (supposedly the hostess) starts arguing and following our still busy waitress around the restaurant saying that she’s the hostess and it’s not her job to make milkshakes because she’s too busy. Our waitress, still serving other customers informs her that the waitresses are also busy, and walks off. This hostess, not done grumbling about milkshakes, makes her way back to her station up front. Another customer informs her to calm down. That she shouldn’t reprimand her coworkers in public. That she understands they are short staffed, and is waiting patiently. I’m assuming she’s the one who ordered the milkshakes. The hostess pipes back, I am calm ma’am, I was just talking to myself. All is quiet for about 5 minutes, when a customer comes to pay his bill. She starts all over again, complaining to the customer how she has to do Everything around here. We enjoyed the quiet for a bit longer. She’s doing her job and such, then you can hear her grumbling to a customer she’s seating, that the restaurant would fall apart without her. I had a little chuckle outta that and pretended it was something on my phone. Mind you, we have front row seats to this drama because our waitress put us right next to the register. Dan, at this point, was so annoyed with this woman, that he kept telling me how hard it is to bite his tongue and keep quiet. It’s not our drama, and I didn’t wanna be pulled into it. Anyway, to make a short story long, he kept his comments to himself. After our meal, we thanked our waitress, as usual, and went up to pay. Talk about a 180. She’s as sweet as pie, and asked us how we enjoyed our meal. She’s so pleased, as if she cooked the food herself. I stifled a snort. Once we were outta earshot, I told Dan, she’s SOOOO going...
Read moreTravelers stay away and locals it hasn't changed. :( So we are locals and we used to go to Dennys every Sunday, sometimes once during the week as well. There are not a lot of choices here in St George but going to Dennys was a weekly treat. Well last year we stopped going as much because the service was bad, getting the order wrong, being rude, but the food was good. It went from every Sunday like clock work to once a month to every couple of months. It was steady getting worse. So we stopped going and had not been back in a few months until today. We thought hey let's give them a go. We even made the comment on the way there they had to be better by now. When we walked in the door we waited all of about 2-3 minutes before being seated by the hostess and we were like cool! The hostess got our drinks and said someone would be by to take our order. 25 minutes later I got up to ask the hostess if someone was going to take our order, she said yes and offered a discount, but we turned it down since we just wanted food lol. 10 minutes later a guy came over to take our order, wrote it down, and came back a few minutes later to confirm the order. About 10 minutes after the waiter comes by asking if we ordered the County fried steak, we said no. I got the fried chicken and hubby got a burger. A few minutes after that my husband went to ask if we were going to get our salads before our meal. The waiter said yes, started making them and my husband noticed did sitting up under the heat lamps. He tells me about it and we ask a waitress and she goes to check and yes it is our food just not the salads. By this time we have been there over an hour and still no food. We get up to leave and offer a $20 for the sprite and coffee. The hostess turns it down and we head down to Georgios restaurant. So long story short, travelers take it from a local skip Dennys and come...
Read moreFirst off service is about non existent. If you’re in a hurry this is not your place. Day shift is a lot better than nights but there’s only 2 waitresses that I dealt with that actually did their jobs. 2nd, food had an off taste, coffee was cold, was very bitter and silverware was wrapped in a bathroom paper towel. I will add that one of the good waitresses came up to check on me and apologized for the cold coffee. She quickly made a fresh pot and replaced it, also took my order and brought my food out .. keep in mind I wasn’t even in her section, my waitress only showed up once over the hour I was in there. Only good dish I had over my 2 day stay here was the baked lasagna. Stay away from breakfast though unless you like raw bacon, old toast, hash browns that are clear with burnt edges tasting like it’s been cooked in brake fluid and scrambled eggs that honestly would have been better if they was made of silly puddy. With few customers in the building it still took 45 minutes to be seated, given a menu And offered a drink. When I say few I mean 4 people.. once I did get some service it seemed as if I was an inconvenience more than a paying customer so a tip was never an option As a 24 year trucking veteran I’ve been to a lot of dennys restaurants attached to truck stops and I can honestly say this one is the worst I’ve been to. A change in staff would make a big difference in my opinion. when employees don’t care about their job it usually shows up in their work especially in food service. We are limited as drivers on food options so a good meal is nice to have just don’t plan on...
