There is a restaurant just outside of Rome that Anthony Bourdain once said was so excellent, he wouldn't share it with his audience. There are certain places that are just so special that to share it with the wrong people would be a disservice to them. This is one of those places. A coffee shop that you only share with those you trust not to violate the sanctity of the space. Your secret spot that you come to hide away from the world and just enjoy the essence of what makes a cafe truly great.
The coffee, the atmosphere, the cleanliness, and the service at this cafe are all world class. The coffee knowledge -- and beyond that the friendly enthusiasm with which it is given -- is far beyond the average coffee shop. The people here truly have a love of their craft and their excitement to share it with any costumer willing to learn is nothing short of refreshing. No detail is overlooked down to the way their coffee is served or even the quality of the toilet paper in their bathroom (they use Charmin Ultra and its magnificent).
This is the type of local business that deserves a line around the door, and yet selfishly I hope it stays tucked and hidden away from a larger audience to that its atmosphere remains unmolested. This is the type of place I would (and have) driven well over an hour for. If you find yourself in the area (or just reading this review and want to experience an excellent coffee shop) so yourself the favor...
Read moreIf I could give more stars, I would. Waypoint Coffee is a hidden treasure of the highest quality coffee and tea I have found in Michigan. It's ruined other coffee shops for me. I can't get the deep, bold, complex flavor of this espresso anywhere else. My blood is approximately 8% vanilla bean latte. I am amazed that they MAKE the vanilla bean syrup, no Monin syrups here. They also offer the most beautiful selection of handmade baked goods - I am most recently obsessed with the rhubarb scone. AND it's less than Biggby or Starbucks?? AND you can order online?? AND you get rewards points??? Aside from the quality product, the atmosphere, sidewalk seating, and awesome staff make this one of my favorite places in town. They know my name and usual order, they're friendly and knowledgeable, but also quick and efficient. I only wish they were open Sundays!! It's now our Saturday morning routine to walk (about a mile) downtown, get coffee and walk back home - I look forward to it every week. As a lifelong resident of SJ who witnessed the decline of downtown during the recession, I am beyond excited to see not only more businesses back downtown, but somewhere like THIS. It feels younger, more modern, fresh and open. Thank you for being...
Read moreFor full disclosure it's important to know what I look for/enjoy about coffee shops. I'm interested in places to get together & enjoy sweet lattes! I've been to Waypoint twice now. I really appreciate the set up. Lots of seating options for a variety of purposes. Quiet study, big group, moms meeting up with kids... they've got you covered! 👌 Beverage wise I love the vanilla bean latte! Sweet & yet a nice kick of espresso ☕ My kids rave about all the amazing pastry options (especially the cookies the size of your head)! 🥐 If your a deal hunter... they also offer a rewards program that's🔥 The owners & staff make it for me though. You'll never meet a more down to earth yet people focused group! They know there stuff too. They can help folks like me with new coffee shop apprehension and still handle folks that know what they like & how they like it! 💞 I'm not well versed in Kombacha or tea... but from all the elements I would recommend this place for all...
