Ive got to admit, this place popped up during the multiple mound construction projects this fall & I missed it, but then several yelp friends kept on checking in, but I did not give it a 2nd thought. Then it was a ROTD and I thought yea another shawarma place on mound..
So then I read a couple of reviews & had to get there, to see or justify the hype.
Well 100% warranted
Walked in at 6pm on 12-2-14 , Mike asked if it was our first visit, yes indeed!
He then had those mini ice cream sample spoons & offered us each a taste of all 3 hummus, YES all 3 were fabulous, in taste & texture!
I ordered the steak shawarma bowl .50 upgrade
But Mike cooked the marinated meat , fresh on the grill. my bowl was layered with Cracked Wheat chickpeas parsley red & white onions pickled cabbage turnips jalapenos tomatoes tahini & garlic sauce
A+ for $4.99 and I have leftovers
I also ordered a bowl of lentil soup, which was very good, had a hint of a sweet taste setting it apart from every other lentil soup I have had A+ $3.40
The bride had the chicken shawarma bowl & chicken lemon rice soup
She "Seldom" gets excited about food , however this place hijacked her taste buds, she claimed she was done with Qdoba & was plotting our next visit back.
Faris the owner stopped by, wondered what brought us in, or how we heard about it.
I asked how he chose the location, with so many middle eastern -Mediterranean places already around here, his answers were enlightening.
I also asked where the next location was going to...
Read moreI've been a loyal customer of Chickpea Kitchen for years, but my recent visit was a complete letdown.
Firstly, upon entering the restaurant, I stood there for a long time without a single staff member acknowledging my presence or even greeting me. Even as they stood in front of me talking amongst themselves. That's just unacceptable in terms of customer service.
When they finally started taking my order, their attitude was far from welcoming. The employees appeared annoyed and disinterested in serving me, which left me shocked and disappointed. It was clear that they didn't value my patronage or my presence in their establishment.
Another major concern was the cleanliness of the dining area. The floors were noticeably dirty, and it didn't make for a pleasant dining experience. Hygiene should always be a top priority for any restaurant, and this was a glaring issue.
For fellow vegans, be cautious when ordering the falafel. I was shocked to learn that it's fried in the same fryer as the breaded chicken, leading to potential cross-contamination. This lack of separation for vegan and non-vegan items is quite concerning.
All in all, my recent visit to Chickpea Kitchen was a major disappointment. The combination of indifferent staff, dirty floors, and cross-contamination issues has led me to reconsider my loyalty to this establishment. It's a shame that a place I once loved has fallen so far in terms of both service and...
Read moreLove this place been coming since it opened. I hate to complain because this place stays busy but recently some of the younger lady's that work here been playing me as of late. I forgot to order hummus because they were busy and moved straight to veggies so after ordering veggies I asked for hummus. The lady making my food said sure thing. The girl behind the counter (who did not make my bowl) saw the hummus on top and asked how many add ons. The lady who did make my food said none. And specifically explained that I did hummus after veggies and said there were none. This young lady for whatever reason felt she knew better than the girl who made my bowl and still charged me for an add on that I did not get. After I paid she immediately crumpled the receipt and went to throw it away until I asked her for it to confirm she charged me even though she was told I didn't add on. She looked at the crumpled receipt and gave it to me before hurrying away. It's only 50 cents and I love this business so I don't mind the measly 50 cents and I definitely don't want to slow the line down when they are busy to argue over the add on so here I am with a review. Wished her a bless day as she always does to me and others on the way out but ignoring your coworker who made the bowl and up charging me really pissed a...
