I saw Saleh on the local news. They profiled them for the outstanding pies they were selling the night before Thanksgiving and we were about to make a pumpkin pie so instead I called the restaurant to see if they had any left. I was in luck, they did so I made the drive over. When I arrived the man and woman working were super nice and took great care of me while I was there. I feel horrible leaving a bad review for a local business but at $16 and $18 per pie what i got just wasn't right. The $16 pumpkin pie was very under cooked. The crust had a dense and gummy wet texture. I'm not sure that it would have been at all flaky even if fully cooked. The pumpkin custard filling though was perfect and sweet strusel topping was great too. I'd have been happier with a $4 pie from Walmart. The $18 apple pie was about the same, very delicious, perfectly sweet not too sweet filling but undercooked crust. The apple pie though had way too much texture in the filling. I could tell as soon as I cut into it that it was not fully cooked. The apples were well layered in the pie and very uniformly cut to very thin slices but basically raw and almost crunchy. Hopefully I just got a bad couple of pies. Also noteworthy these pies were sold in glass bakeware that we get to keep. This offsets the cost a little if you need more pie plates.

When you spin the wheel of "what to eat for dinner tonight?" be sure to add Selah to that list! We came here for something new to try based off a referral from my cousin. First off, the atmosphere is quaint and warm yet vibrant at the same time. There is a great mix of old history and new decor. The service was exceptional and the staff all seemed to work very well together! Now onto the stuff that most people actually care about... the food. Appetizers were the meat and cheese plate and the whipped feta with honey. The meat and cheese plate was good, but let's be honest, it's a meat and cheese plate. BUT the whipped feta with honey was exceptional! Imagine a honey drizzled cheesecake, minus the whole cake setting. For dinner I got the Niagara Falls Walleye with asparagus and it was cooked perfectly. Sauteed in a brown butter sauce and very flaky yet not crumbly. My wife got the gnocchi and meatballs with ricotta. All of which are make in house! The meatballs are tender yet they don't disintegrate in the sauce. The gnocchi definitely holds it's own with a great texture! Dessert was their made in house banana salted caramel cake and the French vanilla cake. Both of which were good but the banana salted caramel stole the show by far. All in all we had a good experience and will be back! A solid 8.2!

Selah restaurant is a hidden gem! Selah has been open 15 years but still remains fresh and new feeling. This amazing restaurant features delicious made from scratch Italian cuisine in a romantic atmosphere. Selah's embraced the features from the historic bank formally at the location in a unique and stylish way! From the beautiful marble tellers counters to the private dining vault Selah's style is sure to impress. Have an expresso on the patio, a lunch with friends, or romantic dinner with your significant other Selah's is the place to go. We were told Selah's has live music throughout the summer too. We can not wait to come back and visit again. Our dinner started with fresh baked Italian bread, warm olive and roasted peppers, followed with mussels and the best gnocchi I have ever eaten, and finished with lattes.

It pains me to write this review, but believe it's important to write to help folks make an informed decision. I have been having dinner here a few times a year for 18 years. We have rented the vault for my most recent birthday for example. Based on good prior experiences, we made a reservation for another family birthday and had folks in from out of town. Our reservation was for 6pm and we were not able to be seated until 705pm. The interim between arriving for our reservation and our seating has made it clear to me that something has changed in this place and they cannot support the level of service they have been known for in the past. The floor manager was not able to find our reservation even when displayed on our phone. After some help, it was found and despite the cake we had preordered for the event, the staff was caught by total surprise and suggested we might have dinner elsewhere. We even had a tense moment where she asked my sister to backup because she felt she was too close, while holding my sister's phone to try and find our reservation. There is no seating to wait so we spent our idle time in the parking lot. Selah was the birthday party's ideal and we were willing to wait.

Our server did try to be welcoming, but a series of delays in servicing of drinks and food had us leaving at first opportunity a little after 9pm. I truly feel that a staffing or communication issue caused the restaraunt's overall functioning to fall through. Seated at 705, drink order at 730 and not served till nearly 8. My son's spaghetti and meatballs had no meatballs and my brother in law's gnocchi trio had one. They had run out? They comped my brother's meal. We took the cake home to celebrate and it was an excellent cake.

I don't care about money or food at its core. I go to dinner with my family for an experience and to share joy. The business of this place made that not possible. While I'm sure I will continue to have dinner at Selah for many years, I can't risk important or larger tables there any longer. We had a bad time on what was supposed to be a warm night and much of it was because of strange social interactions before, during, and after our meal with the staff based on what I'm sure was high anxiety over repeated delays due to be understaffed and underprepared.

Please consider that reservations are made to ensure service, not to detract from a healthy walk in crowd. It may be that Selah is just the place to go for 2-4 people for a mid level dining experience. I had not felt that way until today, and held it as one of the area's best...

Such an awesome location with a really cool interior. This place was originally a bank and the vault is a private table for larger parties and looks super cool. Still has the old teller counter and windows inside. Combine that with some fantastic decorating and you have one of the more interesting dining experiences in the area.

Sadly, this is where the excitement ends. I met here with family at about 3:00 and we were the only table in the restaurant for most of the meal. You can tell they make their own dough and can smell the yeast when you walk in. So I was expecting some pretty exceptional food. I always like to guage a new place that serves Italian by simply ordering their spaghetti and meatballs. And after the feel and smell of the place, I was beyond disappointed. The pasta was cooked just about perfect. But the sauce was fairly bland and I have heated sauce from a jar at home with more flavor. The meatballs were also quite bland with not even a hint of garlic. They are either using frozen meatballs or need to seriously work on the recipe. Also was never served bread even just a slice on the side with pasta. I cannot think of anywhere I have ever ordered pasta and never was served any bread or roll or anything. The meal came with no bread, no salad or other starter, and was $12+.

The server was only kinda friendly and didn't really seem like she wanted to be there. Perhaps she was just having a bad day. She bizarrely requested me to turn over my unused silverware when she took my plate and was just generally awkward how she went about certain things. And this place had HER training a new server. While our server wasn't terrible or rude, she also was not very friendly or welcoming and often made the dining experience awkward.

I would recommend anyone pop in to check this place out at least once just because it is so cool inside. And while my spaghetti with meatballs was a bit overpriced and underwhelming, my grandfather said the soup was fantastic.

My takeaway: It is worth seeing once and grabbing a bowl of soup. But I wouldn't recommend the lunch menu and I probably will...
