This locally owned and operated restaurant has been open for around 5 years now, and has recently expanded into the space next door, basically doubling its seating area. The additional space is attractively set up and decorated, and there is a small, fully stocked bar in the new area - all in all, a nice move to upscale the dining choice here, while retaining the initial, more modest, layout.
The menu is rather large, offering Pizzas (whole pies & slices, specialty & build your own), Subs (hot & cold), Calzones, Strombolis, Rolls (Pepperoni & more), Appetizers, Sicilian Pizza, Burgers, Paninis, and a nice array of Pasta choices. The bar has some nice specialty cocktails, beer on draft and bottles, and a decently sized, modestly priced wine list.
We tried a slice of Cheese Pizza with extra cheese ($3), a slice with extra cheese & Pepperoni & Green Pepper ($4.50), an Italian Sub ($8.85 with FFs), and a small, regular Stromboli ($9.50), and Luigi's Garden Salad ($5.95). The pizza slices were each outstanding - the crust is thin, perfectly cooked, and very tasty; the sauce is very well balanced, not too sweet, not too much acidity; the cheese is great as well, and it is one of the few times when you can actually be sure there is extra cheese because you can see it. Great pie here.
The Italian Sub is one I really like. The excellent roll is nice & crusty, and very well toasted, and then it is loaded with ham, salami, pepperoni, provolone - then topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, & Italian dressing. The Stromboli took no back seat to the slices or the sub - it is outstanding in its own right, and there are few in the area that can equal it, only one or two that surpass it, imo, and there is a lot of it - of the sub I mean, and probably of my opinion, as well. Luigi's Salad was as you would hope - fresh Romaine, cucumber, green pepper, finished with a very good Blue Cheese Dressing.
The service here is friendly, efficient, & informed, and the times for orders out of the kitchen are very reasonable. The items here are not the least expensive in the area - pizza prices run from $9.25 for a 12" (6 slice) cheese pizza to $15.95 for a 14" Veggie Lover, to $24.50 for a 16" Super Special Sicilian. And the individual slices of pizza, which start at $2.25 with 75 cents for each additional topping, are far from the largest around.
The small Stromboli is also more expensive than most around here, the average being between $6.50 and $7.50. The pricing is in line with the quality though, and that quality is about as good as it gets....
Read moreWe have lived in this area for about 1.5 years. We have tried this restaurant about 6 times now. For the life of me, I cannot understand how this place has this high of a rating. They over price and under perform. Why would anyone pay $30 for a soggy pizza. Every pizza we have gotten there is simply under cooked and the dough actually drips when you pick it up. We have been told to just order one with only a few items and ask them to cook it longer. Why should we have to do that? The meal we had last night was a pasta dish with alfredo, chicken, sausage, mushrooms and cheese ravioli. Very little sauce, very few mushrooms, cold and the chicken breast, (which I asked to be blackened) was as dry as a bone and not blackened. We asked for more sauce. After about 10 minutes it arrived and was as thin as water,,,, no flavor. Cost was $30. We were with another couple and our kids. She got baked spaghetti. Noodles in a bowl, sauce, cheese on top and I guess put under a broiler for a minute or so. It was watery and looked something a college student would fix for themselves because it's cheap and quick. Only this was not cheap. The one thing we have gotten there that was okay was a stromboli. Six times at a restaurant should be enough to fairly evaluate it. This is what happens when there is a lack of competition. This is the only Italian place in the area, so they are not challenged to perform better and can over charge. We won't be coming back, but they won't miss me, because there are no alternatives for people to choose from in this area. When we want good Italian cuisine, we'll just make the time to go to Gianos in High Point. Or, I might just try to find a space in that strip center and put an italian restaurant in there myself. Wouldn't take much to be...
Read moreI never knew this place was here until receiving a 50$ gift card to this location.
For a first impression of this place it indeed is a very cozy hit and miss spot. The atmosphere feels at home and is simply just wonderful yet a classic simple elegant at home diner look. It's a very nice place to come in on a rainy day or a cold winter day. I just feel like Iike they could use some more tables.
The food was pretty good but they could use bigger portions and it was the same prices at Elizabeth's Pizza. You get free bread but no side salads with or without charge. Bread was dry and they don't give anything with it no butter no garlic no oils just dry bread.
The food could use some more seasoning and flavor, it needs more love put into it I feel like. The calamari was delightful but you get barely any for the price you pay. I do appreciate how they still give squid tentacles here though unlike other Italian restaurants.
The spaghetti meat sauce was awful it was too watery and just chunks after chunks after chunks. I felt like I was just eating straight smashed tomato with meat chunks that was water down with no flavor really rather than actual spaghetti meat sauce. The angel hair spaghetti was okay I'd recommend just sticking to regular.
The chicken parm was very good though besides the portions of course which could be bigger but I understand the inflation right now in the economy.
The staff are all very sweet and bubbly they are so kind and just are willing to have a conversation with you which is pleasant and makes you feel like you are with family and or friends within the moment.
I probably won't come here again but it was a pretty interesting place to try out for a first time.
Side note: (The spaghetti tasted better the next day at home...
