The staff at this restaurant is so rude. I’ve only ever visited Knight’s in Ann Arbor in person but I had the unpleasant experience of interacting with staff here today by phone. I’ve visited several times to both locations in Ann Arbor and I don’t know if I’ll ever be back after this despite really enjoying it. Last week, I started getting emails and texts about a reservation that I apparently made. I emailed resy, who makes the reservations for this restaurant, because I thought my account had been hacked. They assured me that someone at the restaurant just mistakenly linked a reservation to my account and that it wouldn’t happen again and I shouldn’t hear anything else. I continued to get emails and texts the entire weekend about my “reservation.” Finally, yesterday morning, I called Knight’s in Jackson and told them I did not have a reservation and to please know that it’s not me. Instead of apologizing, this employee tells me “thanks for calling.” What? I am calling you to tell you about your mistake and you tell me “thanks for calling” with no apology for anything. I asked if I would be charged if I didn’t come (because I wasn’t coming. It wasn’t my reservation and it was for 7 people.) and he was like “well, just keep an eye on your credit card and let us know if you are charged.” Maybe take my phone number off of the reservation that isn’t mine then and do something to fix it?! I remained calm on the phone but I just now got a text to review my meal that I was not there for, since I am not even in the state of Michigan right now. This shows that the host didn’t even make a note and try to get the party’s correct phone number or correct the reservation, and whoever this is went to the reservation. I’ve never been to this location, but I will never go after how I was treated as a bother for calling about something that was in no way my fault. I don’t know what happened, but the staff’s reaction to this situation was...
Read moreDull food, boring presentation, poor drink selection with almost no cocktail knowledge or ingredients, yet the sky-high prices and Lumen Christi crowd keep them afloat year after year.
I'm just tired of this Knight's location. Being from Jackson when someone says 'nice dinner in town', Knight's is where they're referring to, and for the longest time in my youth this was the pinnacle of fine dining. Now that I'm grown up and have experienced really good meals, and more chiefly in this example having dined at the other Knight's locations, I can say honestly that the Jackson location is just awful compaired to the others.
Often overdone protiens served on nasty-looking old sizzle platters, pitious amounts of undercooked veg and other sides served with a highly limited selection of liqoured up syrupy cocktails served in standard diner glasses, all in a decaying atmosphere that reminds me of nowhere except a grandparents' basement with waitstaff that are often as enthusiastic as the stoned grandkids of the basement owner.
Go to the downtown Ann Arbor location and they'll serve you better food with better portions on better tableware, they'll mix you whatever drink you can think of and put it in proper glassware and have it served to you by a waitron that at least acts like they want to be there, all in an ambiance that seems like an actually nice restaurant people want to come to.
I'll never forget the first time I got dragged to the Ann Arbor location and was surprised by the nice interior and full crowd, then surprised even more upon asking very cautiously if the waitress could get me a certain cocktail, noting to her that I wasn't so lucky at another Knight's. She looked at me as if I spit on her shoes and responded "Where don't they know how to make that drink", I told her Jackson, and she stifled a laugh and said "Why anybody would want to go there I've got no idea". That'll stick with me for...
Read moreAte there tonight with my family. Had been there years ago and had a raw steak served to me which was supposed to be medium. I figured after so many years I would give it another chance. It was terrible. Not many selections of steak for a steak house. Cuts are either too small or two big and few in between. Prices are outrageous for this level of dining and the location. But even when you are willing to spend above $50 on one persons meal you hope it will be good. My burger was dry. The fries were tasteless as were the buns served to the table. The London broil was small in portion and tasteless. But the biggest issue is that we specified that there be no pork in our food and specifically ordered items that didn’t have pork. Low and behold a giant piece of bacon in the fries! They offered to fire a new one but didn’t comp anything and gave a mediocre apology. Not to mention a rude waitress (not mine thankfully) who kept giving me dirty looks. No masks are worn but the servers or kitchen staff only the host??? Loud music and cackling coming from the kitchen when the doors swung open. And when I asked if the French onion soup had any wine or sherry in it I overheard the waitress ask another one who told her it cooks off. This is absolutely not true. Anywhere from 5-95% of alcohol is still retained in food depending on length of cooking time and other ingredients which may cause more retention. In fact, Servers and kitchen Staff should be aware of this. Many people choose not to consume alcohol due to allergies to sulfites, addictions or preferences. Luckily the waitress told us there was sherry in it. Will not return and definitely...
