Southern BBQ and Ice Cream — Restaurant in Sunbury

First time I ate there was February 2024. Stopped there with two buddies on the way to a weekend in Lockhaven. Was looking for a different alternative to Skeeters BBQ which has a great view but...higher prices and definitely not as good .

Saw it had a bunch of stars and decided to try it. Food was excellent, prices were affordable, and service was great. They have a picnic area but it was cold so we just ate in the car. Would recommend it 110%.

Then my family went on a trip to Finger Lakes and stopped there on way in Summer of 2024. It was just as good and my wife and 3 girls loved it as well. This time Sat in the picnic area.

Third time, just a couple weeks ago on way to Lockhaven again with the guys. Place is amazing. Recommended to all the other guys heading up to Lockhaven as well for our weekend.

Wish this place wasn't 3 hours away....

We tried the brisket, which I feel was slightly over cooked, Slightly dry and a few pieces were tough. Seasoning was ok, but it needed more of it. We also tried the pulled pork and turkey. The turkey was pretty good, the pulled pork didn’t have any flavor. The Mac and cheese was good, the baked beans were hard, and the cornbread was more of a cake texture, but it was good. I’m very picky and particular about good smoke, and I could have been here on an off day, but overall its still better then most...

Great food for great prices!! We particularly enjoyed the hog wings and baked beans. The chicken wings, brisket and mac and cheese were just as delicious. The smoked chicken wings were seasoned to perfection and the brisket was flavorful and tender. If you are trying to decide where to get BBQ by the river, skip the windy view across the way in favor of the better quality meats and sides at Southern BBQ and Ice Cream.
