I have great memories of this place as a kid, but I feel like it has gone downhill in recent years. When we went a month or so ago, the place was entirely ran by an (approximately) seven year old. I have ethical issues with child labor, as I'm sure they are not being paid minimum wage (I am aware that child labor is legal here for family businesses, but that does not make it morally right). There were also multiple unattended young children at tables in the corner. There was a noticeable odor of diapers and the kitchen appeared to be a mess, which raises hygiene concerns. They also were not making any kitchen items or drinks at the time.
We wanted to try again this morning, and the donuts were greasy and the icing was very goopy. In particular, the blueberry donut was wet with grease on the inside. The shop was lively, likely because of tourists and the holiday weekend, so the atmosphere felt better. They were making drinks this time, but a child was still primarily manning the counter and register. The kitchen was disorganized and there were food scraps all over. We paid about $15 for four donuts and a chocolate milk before the tip, which is expensive.
Overall, the food is not great, their prices are a little high, there is an odd smell, and I have ethical concerns with the child labor. It is incredibly sad to see because the place makes me nostalgic and I want it to be good. I'd recommend going to Donut Palace in Laurie or even Woods in Sunrise Beach for better prices and better...
Read moreOne of my obsessions is cake donuts. They are my ultimate guilty pleasure. There is nothing (yes nothing) tastier than a cake donut with the right flavor and texture combined with delicious icing. In my opinion, Sunrise Donuts hit the nail on the head with making that perfect cake donut.
I took home a dozen variety that was excellent. This included a well-done maple bacon. However, the real standout was anything with chocolate icing. The chocolate ganache was out of this world.
The morning I picked them up, the whole family was hard-at-work making and selling the donuts. This included their very polite and professional daughter working the register.
I could have saved time picking up donuts in the back of a local grocer, but I would have regretted that decision. You just can't beat well-crafted and delicious donuts from local small businesses. Sunrise Donuts is...
Read moreI had the pleasure of working with Sunrise Donuts to deliver 24 donuts to my daughter and her fiancé at his family's Lake House in the Sunrise Beach area at LOO. Not only were they delivered in a very professional manner - with great communication - the presentation was amazing - and less than 24 hours later there were only 5 left - and I am sure they are gone now.
They graciously accepted my order with short notice and messaged me to ask if I would like certain options - how kind when I know this must be a very busy time for them. We do not live anywhere near LOO so I was putting my faith in a recommendation by another locally owned bakery - and Sunrise did not disappoint.
If I could give 10+ stars I would. We highly...
