Hometown Cafe — Restaurant in Syracuse

Well I was a little disappointed that they stop serving breakfast all day it now only goes to 11 I thought well that's alright I'll have the shrimp or wait no I'll have the special nope they already sold out of this special mashed potatoes no mashed potatoes no meatloaf no Stakes cuz the girls weren't on yet and they weren't heated up enough for them to cook a $17 steak for my friend which man if I rented play side turn the damn girl on and make $17 but they didn't so he had a chicken sandwich and I had a cheeseburger with bacon which was delightfully delicious and they make their stuff good anyway could have made more tots and could have cooked him a little bit longer they were bit fair that you know ain't going to be too picky service was great friendly Pleasant came by just enough times to check on us not too many not too little they know what they're doing they got a great set-up we just hit it at the wrong time we'd have been there twenty minutes later we could have got a steak or we could have let you know shrimp whatever we wanted but we just kind of hit it at the wrong time and all they had was sandwiches but still would never put down Hometown cooking it's a great Cafe always recommended I think it's wonderful for weary Travelers it's a relaxing enjoyable environment and the people are friendly and they make you feel welcome no matter what you look like so come on in and...

I used to pass this place often but never stopped because it was always closed in the evening. Tonight it was still open when we passed by, so we decided to stop. Our young server was attentive, friendly and quick with our drinks. It's a clean little joint, warm, inviting and very clean, even the bathrooms. Our food was decent, not good, not bad, pretty average actually. Solid, restaurant supply food. No surprises here. My husband wasn't super happy with his cut of meat, but like many people, he'd rather eat it than return it and say something. It is not cheap, my husband noticed that the "5pm specials" on the board were the same prices as on the menu. I asked for my chicken fried steak sandwich with no bun and all I received was the patty on a plate as you can see. I only wanted it with the AYCE salad bar so it was filling. The salad bar was filled with shredded iceberg, pre-chopped ham, pre-prepared everything, no surprises here. Dinner was about $32 for two, pricey for the middle of nowhere, but we're all about supporting...

Unfortunately my first trip here and not a good impression. I arrived at beginning of lunch time. The food was good, but service was disappointing. When I walked in, there was no sign to seat myself or wait for greeting. Another customer at the front round table told me to sit wherever. I got a booth and was greeted. I ordered a drink and food and while waiting on food I needed one refill… during that time the waitress I had took “an important phone call” and I watched the other employees talk for maybe 10 mins then I received one. This waitress seemed more inclined to socialize with the other employees and locals. It didn’t seem this nearby traveler would get the same friendly experience as the locals. Maybe it’s a rough day for her, but why not communicate and have someone manage the tables in her place until she returned? Either mistakes on the waitress or restaurant training.
