We came on Friday night after my nephew graduation. There were a lot of people, the restaurant was clean and had a lot of seating, we were in the back room because we had a large party of about 12. Family oriented space . It took a few minutes for someone to take drink orders, but after that, they were pretty good about checking in with us. We had two ladies helping us, and the older waitress was very kind and checked on us frequently. The other waitress who actually took our order seemed a little more stressed and irritated, especially with the older woman, which I didn't like seeing, just a bit disrespectful in my opinion, when she just seemed to be trying to help. When our food arrived, they called out plates and began placing them in front of the people who ordered it. I and a couple others in the group had salads and the salad had hardly any fresh lettuce left, but had pretty good toppings standard- eggs, cucumber, bacon bits, macaroni salad and tuna salad, 5 dressings, onions, corn, ham, and a few other things I cant remeber. They did cone out and add more lettuce as i was leaving the bar. Most in our group had ordered fish, and when it arrived, it appeared to Whiting vs. Flounder, which was what they had order, everyone was hungry, so a few started eating, and when they waitress came back, my Sister in law advised her that they had received whiting instead of flounder and she was like oh really and then made a side comment that you better take what they sending because their shutting down the kitchen. The plates had nice size pieces of fish and fries for those that ordered fries. My Sis in law said ok, but that's not what we ordered, and there's a difference in price, so she asked her to adjust the order to reflect whiting vs. flounder. She told her that we would just have to tell her at the register to make the adjustment, and she hadn't even given us the check yet. My husband said the fish was ok at best. I ordered the Monterey chicken, and I was the last to be served. Most had started and well into their meal before I finally received my meal, and it was definitely not worth the wait. The chicken was a really small piece with barbecue sauce, canned mushrooms, and cheese on top. The chicken was warm, had a piece of bacon on it, mushrooms, and cheddar cheese on it. The mushrooms tasted like they were just out of can not even cooked or warm to the touch. I scrapped the bacon off of it, ate two small bites, and it was half gone after those two bites, but I left the rest it just didn't taste good at all. No since in complaining since they didn't resolve the fish issue, highly unlikely that they would give me a new piece of chicken. The owner did come by and check on us but still didn't make any attempt to resolve the issue of the fish situation. I don't live in the area, but I do visit the low country frequently to visit family, but I'll probably won't be back. It was not really a great experience for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is the BEST seafood place in TaterTown!!! On my farm, I've hosted over 500 people from all over the US and from over 50 different countries. Whenever the visitors to my farm ask about authentic food found solely in this region, I tell them about Calabash-style seafood. I've eaten at places in the immediate are, at the beach, and in Calabash itself. And I've eaten many classic restaurants which are no longer with us. So I know good seafood! To let out-of-towners and foreign folk eat something delicious and sure to leave them with great memories, there is only one place to go. That is Adam's Seafood out on the By-pass! This way they can try it for themselves. First, the very friendly wait staff impresses them with our great Southern hospitality. Most have never had a waitress call them 'darling', 'honey', or 'sugar' before! Most comment on how inexpensive the menu choices are compared to places in their homes. I always recommend that they get the 'Deluxe" platter for the best selection of delectable seafoods. They are unprepared for the unending heaping baskets of hushpuppies which are brought with their glistening glasses of sweet iced tea. I do have to warn them not to fill up on those crunchy balls of scrumptiousness. Then, in what seems to be two blinks, the waitress comes out with the large tray with their plates heaped with steaming seafood goodness! Seeing their eyes widen as the individual plates are set before them piled high with shrimp, oysters, flounder, scallops, deviled crab, fries, & cole slaw! No matter how talkative the table was prior to the food being brought out, all goes silent as everyone digs into their food. You hear satisfied murmurings all around the table as seafood is devoured by everyone. Most never finish their plate as the portions are so generous. The waitress brings containers along with the check. There's always another expression of shock at how inexpensive the meal cost especially with the amount of food provided for the price. Most will be able to have another full meal with the leftovers they bring home with them. And for those staying with me for several weeks, if given the choice of something to do, they always ask for a return trip to Adam's! When they depart from the farm and NC, they all leave with a wonderful impression this fantastic Southern cuisine, an extremely full tummy, and lasting memories of this delightful restaurant! So, hit Adam's when you are hungry for some extremely...
